Tom D 0 Posted December 26, 2011 I just got approved by insurance company. I won't have surgery until June since DH and I are going on a cruise end of May. Doctor only requires 1 day of Clear Liquids before surgery. Most of you had 1-2 weeks. What do you think? Should I do a week of liquids? Did you have better results doing the liquid before? I was one of those that started Clear Liquids 10 days before my surgery, the reason my doctor has his patients do this, is that it softens up the areas that he has to go through, as will as flush out the liver, I may have misunderstood him, (which is likely) but the results that I have seen have made it worth while! I just wished my scaled went high enough to for me to weigh in daily, as it was I could only weigh in at the doctors office, now I've lost enough to do it at home. But of the three stages, clear liquids, pureed and solids I am just about finished with the Clear liquids and ready to start pureed food, this is where it gets muddy for me, I hope to find some help and answers here on what pureed foods I can do! Tom D 0 Posted December 26, 2011 I have a question. I am so tired. I mean really tired. Like I said before I am on clear liquids for 2 weeks. I can't do this for that long. I am not hungry I just feel horrible. I want to make a protien shake so bad. I have read and it seems that skim milk is ok. So here is what I am thinking. 1 lowfat yogurt, 1 scoop of soy protien, some ice and some skim milk. Blend for a long time and drink slowly. How could this be so bad? I do not want to do anything to damage my band but I need something to make me feel alive. Please help me. I've been drinking my protien shakes since two days after my surgery, it was one of the things my doctor recommended because the body needs protien to heal. Of course my Dr. (Dr. Corvala) is different as well: clear liquids (to include sugar free Jello and coffee) is 1st for a week post-op; second week is a little thicker foods: yogard, oatmeal, cream of wheat, Protein Shakes, smoothies. I heard about it through a thread on this website and after checking it out and seeing the positive reviews, I sent away for the vanilla and the chocolate Splendor. They use whey Protein isolate and taste amazing with skim milk and an 8oz. glass offers 21 g protein and 180 calories. They have no sugar, only 4g of carbs and no fat. Delicious tasting in my opinion. Just thought I'd share my favorite Protein Powder. My surgeon's office promotes this powder as well. Thanks for all of the great information you've all supplied! I was allowed only clear liquids for the first three to four days post-op, which included sugar free Jello, broth, and Water. Then it was regular liquids to carry me through the first two weeks, which could include Tomato juice (V8 was on the list). The nutritionist did say that the acid in tomato based products bothers some people and if we found ourselves having a lot of reflux to drop the tomato products. I had lots of tomato-based Soup with no difficulty but I'm not prone to heartburn. This included a lot of fat-free cream Soups (she told me cream of chicken without the chicken pieces, for example) and the Protein shakes, made with Skim Plus milk. I could also have sugar free Hot chocolate with Skim Plus milk. Now I'm on mushies for the next two weeks, but even this emphasizes lowfat/sugarless options. It also included "pureed" chicken and meats, and I asked if this meant we were to blend it, and she said no, just chew it very very very well. It did not say Pasta was a msuhy, and I wondered about that one. Can I eat Pasta if I chew it very very well? My surgeon told me absolutely no oatmeal or malt o meal bc it turns to goop and would block my opening? If your having no problem with it that would be great bc i don't wanna give it up.
