Reason for being off work

Recommended Posts

I am telling all but my managers that I am having a hiatal hernia repaired and the reason I will be off work. Trying to drop some inches before surgery so it doesn't look as obvious. I just don't want to hear about me taking the easy way to lose weight.

I told my employers that I was having hernia surgery and the weight loss is coming from the pre op blood work that showed that I was diabetic and I just made lifestyle changes. No one needs to know as far as I'm concerned

You've already volunteered too much information.

If you're going out on leave, you only need to tell HR enough to get the leave paperwork completed, and you don't have to tell them why/what you're doing. Do you have to tell everyone what you're doing on vacation? No, and medical leave is the same way.

I've decided to keep it good and vague and just say that I'm having abdominal surgery. It felt better for me to say that than lie.

I've been pretty open with people at work, and fortunately everyone has been very supportive. However, when it came to my HR rep I only said I was having surgery.

You have to know my personality here... I would tell my guys that I have a raging case of the crabs and recommend they disinfect the toilet seat.

And when you keep losing and losing and losing? Do you tell them that you were mistaken.

They weren't crabs.

They were piranhas????

I completely agree ... I feel like I'd be walking around all day trying to explain myself and being judged. It's only your business. I don't like to lie either but at the same time, that puts their mind at ease for why you're gone, why you're losing and so on. It will be fine,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
