maredarlin 12 Posted August 20, 2016 Hi everyone! So I'm slightly freaking out as last night I started to get the scratchy throat that usually means I'm getting sick. Last night I drank some Water with Braggs Apple Cider vinegar (so gross) and it seemed to help a little, but my question is this... I'm on day six of pre-op liquid diet and I've been very good, but I really need to use some honey in my tea as I think it will help. Think this is okay? I'll call the doctor tomorrow if I'm still feeling scratchy and go from there as I'm a week out from surgery...but I know we're supposed to avoid sugar. However, I know that honey really helps. Any thoughts?
melbell2222 244 Posted August 20, 2016 Bleach everything!!!! I'm bringing Clorox whipes with me to the hospital... KristenLe 5,979 Posted August 20, 2016 @@maredarlin Take Airborne. The issue with having honey is - it will probably take you out of ketosis. Ketosis is the goal of the pre-op diet. I would look into sugar free throat drops instead. Feel better!!!

I pulled out my neti pot and used more apple cider vinegar. I just went to store and picked up some sugar-free Halls Defense Vitamin C drops. I looked at Airborne, but it has a few things my doctor put on the list to not have in the two weeks prior to surgery, so I'll check with him on that first. But again, thanks. I'm just going to do everything I can to squash this.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted August 20, 2016 I'm sure the honey won't cause any issues anyway. I don't even have a pre-op diet.
