Yesterday I had my pre-op visit with my surgeon. While in the waiting room, a lady came in and they gave her money back (check payment for Vitamins, Protein, ect.) Which means she had went throught the pre-op liquid diet... why would a surgery get canceled?? Just wondering bc I'm scared

She could have changed her mind. They may have discovered something in pre-op testing that prevented her from having surgery (ie. pregnancy). Maybe she didn't follow pre-op instructions (CPAP compliance, diet, etc). Don't stress about it - just do what you need to.

I was in a pre-op class the last one before surgery and a woman there was like where do I go to cancel my surgery.. We were like Huhhhh! But her and her sisters get together around Memorial Day few days before she would have had the surgery and she said they were not a fan of her getting it anyways.... So you really have to have the mind set to get through it all and pass the tunnel to a new light! Hope all goes well with your journey:)

Like @@KristenLe said...there are plenty of reasons that surgery may have been cancelled and almost all of them are very unique to the person and likely would not pertain to you. You could always just ask. If I overhear another patient talking about something that might impact me, I would say...I overheard a person in the waiting room who had their surgery cancelled, would their situation be applicable to me or is there anything I need to worry about that might have my surgery cancelled? If they give you a line about confidentiality, they are incorrect- nothing in that question violates HIPAA, although if they don't answer at all, especially to the last part of the question, they would get a whopping attitude from me because not only do you have the right to ask, they have a responsibility to answer questions specific to you and not about the other person. Sometimes it creates less stress to just ask than to wonder.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
