kelliev2015 136 Posted August 19, 2016 ...why we can take all of our regular medications but have to have chewable Multivitamins for the first 3 months? It seems like it isn't an issues with swallowing pills so just curious if anyone knows the reason? Maybe they absorb differently?
Pescador 1,374 Posted August 19, 2016 Not all of us had chewable multivitamins.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted August 19, 2016 My understanding is they absorb better. Not all other meds come in chewable form or work well that way.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted August 19, 2016 @@kelliev2015 Mainly I think the reason are BS. They are one size fits all crap recommendations based on Gastric Bypass patients. I found that I wasn't take my Vitamins as regular as I did pre-op because I hate fake sweets and nothing is worst than nasty fake sweet Vitamins. So I stopped take the chewables and went back to my normal vitamins which were super high quality. Just ask your Dr about it and see if you can get a real answer and not a canned one. Valentina 2,642 Posted August 19, 2016 I've always hated chewable Vitamins. They taste like sucking on pennies. (not that I actually do suck on pocket change. not on a regular basis anyway.) The metallic taste----yuck. I much prefer just to swallow them and have it done with. Just MHO.
daniotra 298 Posted August 20, 2016 I agree with Valentina. As soon as I was cleared to start swallowing my pills, I did. I like my Iron chewable and the Calcium chews, so I do still use those. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I got the Vitamin Patches from the Bariatric Pal Store. Love them.,they absorb thru your skin so you get more out of them without the stomach acid eating away a portion of your oral Vitamins. kelliev2015 136 Posted August 22, 2016 My nutritionist didn't recommend those. She said there was no evidence that they actually worked. Not sure if that is true or not.

carlaw 82 Posted August 22, 2016 The Vitamin Patches are not waterproof this is a problem! Anyone know the solution? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
vamping 183 Posted August 23, 2016 @@carlaw You could try putting a tegaderm patch over it to keep it dry. I had a doctor suggest that when I was having issues with estrogen Patches. You can get them at the drugstore. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk
Qwalla 132 Posted August 28, 2016 I use my Vitamin patch at night and shower in the morning. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

trekker954 421 Posted August 31, 2016 Their isn't scientific proof to back up at patch yet, however my NUT reports their patients who use them have good blood labs so they say we can use them. We do our labs and if something needs adjusting they will tell us. Regarding waterproof. After dinner and my evening shower I put on my multivitamin patch anywhere I want because I'm in pajamas and no one can see. I remove it in the morning before getting ready for work.
