Hey everyone! I'm new here, and this is my first post. I'm just starting the process and hoping to get sleeved in December. I joined weight watchers as a part of my weight management. I met the leader today and told her why I was there. I was worried what she might say because I've read how some have experienced negative comments about WLS at WW meetings. It was just the opposite! She was supportive and told me that WLS can be a good tool, and she has several people that come who have had surgery as well. She said I can keep that confidential if I like, and with WLS and WW together, people have had great results. I was just so happy for the positive experience with her. Does anyone else do WW after having surgery? How are you doing with it?

I was doing WW online preop but not post-op.

It may have changed, but my major issue (other than cost) was that it wasn't possible to track my Protein with the WW point system. I still had to track my Protein so I started using MyFitnessPal which is free.

Post-op, protein and fluids are the priority. For me, it is a fairly simple program.

If you can track your protein and can follow a bariatric post-op nutrition plan in conjunction with WW, find the meetings helpful, and can afford it then I don't think they are necessarily incompatible.

On a side note, I personally hated the focus on the scale that WW relies on and the consequent assumption that I did something wrong if I hit a stall. This is the first time in my life I have learned about how normal, natural, and necessary stalls are to the process of losing weight. (Embrace the Stall

I personally have had much more success and have gained many more skills and resources with OA.

If WW is helpful for you and meets your needs, then by all means keep going.

Thanks for the information! I've read that it doesn't work too well with all the Protein needed post-op. I agree with you about the focus on the scale. I've joined before, and that's what it was. It seems that they are no longer focused on the number but on wellness. It was my first meeting in a few years and I was surprised that they didn't have a weight loss celebration. Maybe they're truly starting to get it.

VSG schedules September 26.

My doctor has us doing South Beach which focuses on Proteins and vegetables... I'm sugar free, which is huge plus. WW obviously never taught me how to eat, I find SBeach much easier. I'll do do for a lifetime with my VSG.

I'm not familiar with the South Beach diet. I'm going to have to look into it. Thanks for the tip!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
