can't take pills anymore!

Recommended Posts

I recently had my wisdom teeth pulled and i still have to take antibiotics for 2 more days, i am in hell, i threw up 3 times because of one of the pills i took this morning, so i guess it was a waste anyways because i didnt get any in me. At first swallowing them was fine, went down no problem, but after a few days i started finding they got stuck, and now even when i'm not taking pills my band seems tight, even liquids don't go down great anymore. Before the operation my fill level was good, now it seems like i am overfilled. Does this make sense?

Have you tried cutting your pill in half or thirds? I have always had a hard time taking pills even before being banded. You can pick up a decent pill cutter for under $10 from CVS or Walgreens. I cut my pills in half and take them with something soft, like SF pudding or SF Jello, its a mental thing for me. I can not swallow pills unless I am really deperate without having something soft to swallow with.

You may have irritated your stomach with the throwing up, try sticking to liquid for a few days.

You only have a few more days of pills to take, you might try breaking open the capsuls and mixing the powder into something like pudding, applesauce, something soft that will go down and mask the bad taste. We use to do this for my oldest when he had to take pills daily. If the taste is really, really bad the soft stuff might not mask the taste a lot but maybe enough to get it down without a problem.

Hope you feel better soon!

You could ask the doctor to switch you to a liquid. Most antibiotics are available in liquid form.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
