So I'm done with the 6 month visits & tests come to find out I was told that the surgeon decided he cannot do the sleeve surgery due to chronic acid reflux,to add on I have a fatty liver wich he said it's not too bad, mild sleep apnea, stomach bacteria, and I have to be cleared by a neurologist due to a small amount of Fluid accumulated in my neck from an epidural procedure gone wrong Because of the chronic acid reflux he decided Gastric Bypass is more convenient because sleeve surgery will only make it worse (sighs)

The gastric bypass is a great surgery -- I know several people who have had it, including family members. They have all done fantastic with their weight loss and maintenance and are in terrific health. The bypass should also cure your reflux so you won't have to deal with that any more. I am sure you will do great -- good luck with getting everything resolved quickly before surgery!

Thanks Bufflehead just so nervous about Bypass since people say it's so risky and all....

The risks are very similar. I am hoping to get the sleeve and would also be disappointed if I need Bypass instead BUT I'd do it - the risk of contuining at my weight and health issues are far greater than any surgery.

Bypass wouldn't be my first choice either but if that was my only option, I would take it.

If you already have acid issues, the sleeve will make your life a living hell. So do what your Dr suggests.

I will be eager to hear about this as I have 'silent GERD' and have been on meds for years. I wonder if doc will see the damage at the endoscopy and decline to do the sleeve??

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
