Eating out on stage 3

Recommended Posts

Hello all..

I'm still in my puree stage and have plans to go out to dinner with my family while thwy are in town. I fully plan on taking my own eats but am worried it will make others feel uncomfortable if I do and I dont want to deal with a fight should i take food into a restaurant.

Does anyone have any suggestions on eating out while on this stage? I don't know where they want to go to yet but i have a feeling it will be a buffet as we live in las vegas and that is where it's cheapest to eat.

Personally, I wouldn't take my own food into a restaurant, unless it was a Protein shake. You can always order Soup and enjoy that. Since you can't consume much, it won't really matter. I've heard of wls patients being allowed to pay child's price for a buffet, but I doubt they will allow you in with your own food.< /p>

I am curious though how it works out.

The buffet at the Wynn has great Soups.

Just get a Soup, even if you are at a buffet and don't stress about it.

Also you can't really bring outside food into most resturants. If anything have a Protein shake before you go.

Stage three..soft foods? When I was in Vegas I was a little further along than you. Some places I opted for a shrimp cocktail, Soup or other "healthier" meals.

I would also check to see if the restaurant has a plate share option. Some charge a fee for sharing but my husband and I do this.

Lots of places have their menus online. Pre choose a couple ideas before you go.

If you do choose a buffet you will have more choices. Stick to your plan but your portions will be considerably smaller than those of a regular diner, check to see if they allow a child's portion or plate share. You may just end up paying full price and eating very little.

Pre-op I took my food with me everywhere. Post op I choose from the menu. I agree that restaurants in Vegas may not be too happy having you bring in your food.

Have fun and enjoy :)

My surgeon gave me this card: I haven't used it yet, but I plan to use it in Vegas.

I've heard of these but i havent seen one. We dont normally eat out and im still on only pureed foods so im not worried about it at the moment.

I hope you have a blast while you are here.

I'll have to suggest that. I've been here 4 yrs and have only eaten at 2 casinos and those where for holiday dinners.

Is the Wynn reasonable?

The Wynn is not reasonable, it is one of the nicest Hotels on the strip. The Soups and food are divine.

However any buffet will have Soup, and Soup or baked fish are your best options.

I have a bariatric card. I have never used it. I didn't eat out really until 3 or 4 months and by then I was able to make a decent in most things, so no point.

I'm taking my daughter to Vegas for her birthday, 5 days. I will be 6 weeks post op. We love the shows, the pools and the buffets. She already told me she plans to go to a buffet each day. She's been supportive but is drawing the line here. She's already a tad disappointed I have us booked in a residence inn (with kitchen) rather than our usual Cosmopolitan. I have the surgeons card also and will see if I can either sit there with her or if they will let me order a bowl of Soup ala carte or maybe child's price. We then to hit the more expensive buffets.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
