I am currently 6 days post op. I really try to only take pain meds before I go to bed, but my right side (where my stomach was removed through) is in worse pain then it originally was. I can only lay in one position to not be in pain. If I sit or move in any direction while standing its a deep burning pain. Is this normal? Would a heating pad help?

I found an ice pack helped a lot. I pulled a stitch there and it hurt quite a bit for about 10 days. If it's not hot, you don't have a fever, the area around it isn't red or swollen, and it's not oozy, you are probably OK. If you are still concerned, talk to your doc.

I am two weeks post op and felt that pain yesterday when I was getting up and down. It went away today. Doc said that was the opening they had to pull the muscle the most to get the stomach out and to expect that pain for about two weeks. If you can't handle it, I'd take my meds accordingly.

My doc did say to use ice one day and then heating pad the next couple of days when I was being discharged.

It is normal, there's a deeper stitch there. It lasted a couple weeks but gradually got better. sleeping was the hardest for me.. I basically slept in a recliner so I wouldnt toss and turn because movement while laying down hurt so bad. I only used my stronger pain meds first few days and switched to Tylenol. I imagine ice and heating pad might help though I didn't use it. Just limit your movement and don't lift anything heavy, let it heal.

I was miserable with this pain. If your surgeon allows it, ibuprofen liquigels on a schedule really helped me...even more than pain meds. My pain magically disappeared around 3.5 weeks out.

I'm surprised you were able to take an NSAID that soon after surgery.

My doc let me have ibuprofen (400mg) a week after sleeve surgery instead of refilling my narcotic scrip. Tylenol wasn't working. The ibuprofen worked as well as the narcotics for me.

It's is exactly the same for me. I'm post week 3 and that deep burning pain you describe is only just starting to lessen. And yes it did get worse. Pressure on it and stretching bending or moving to quick and I was in agony. I've been prescribed codeine and soluble acetaminophen. Both every four hours. I personally was told don't take anti-inflammatories because they can seriously irritate your new stomach which is still trying to heal.

Hope you feel better soon xox

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
