WHAT I'VE LEARNED..MY experiences!

Recommended Posts

Hiya, tomorrow is my 5th week post op anniversary...I'm excited about learning so much about the changes in my body. I've learned that eggs are NOT MY THING...and if I don't chew 25-30 times.... I dump! Just as plain as that!!!...although...I DUMP ALOT ALREADY... I went back to work last week and notice how easy it is to wake up the nerves in my stomach....I'm still a little achy in certain parts of my tummy....especially standing on my feet nonstop....if at first you don't succeed.... TRY TRY AGAIN....SO..if I feel sick trying to eat ...I stop and try it again hours later...smaller bites....chew more...I've LEARNED TO GET IN MY Protein Shakes EARLY...BECAUSE NOTHING ELSE IS GUARANTEED TO GO DOWN...I've learned not to compare my journey with others...NO TWO journeys ARE THE SAME....I've learned to STOP..AND BREATH....EVERYTHING Is Going TO BE GRAND...I'm Grateful for my opportunity and feel that I'm slowly getting my life back!

You have a very positive attitude and let me tell you, the first few months of figuring things out you will need it.

I promise, it does gets better as time goes buy. Foods that don't work today, may work tomorrow or next week or next month or year even.

The only food that I cannot tolerate is eggs......I keep trying though.

I am 23 months post op....

Best of luck to you and stay positive! Congratulations!

@@fit2bme Thanks for saying no 2 journeys are the same because I see so many people comparing their weight loss to others and getting discouraged for not losing as much as fast as someone else. I have told myself daily even though I don't have my surgery until 8/23 because I know it will be easy to fall i to that trap.

Congrats to both you anf @@Djmohr success so far!

eggs are the worst. Just avoid them until later. I can tolerate them now but early on it was a disaster

@@Shi-Shi80 Thanks a bunch...and good luck...if I can say anything to make this easy...I would but I can't... I can say this...sometimes we don't meet the expectations that we have beforehand... And can get discouraged...I constantly remind myself that all of this isn't going to magically disappear... Be patient and listen to your body...You'll DO GREAT...KEEP US POSTED

I love eggs and I'm not liking the thought of not being able to eat them for any amount of time but I'll survive. LOL

Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm trying to keep focus on the big picture and telling myself that it will take time to get this weight just like it took time to pack it all on. I will definitely keep you posted and continue to seek advice and tips from everyone on here. This site has really made getting ready for this surgery much easier to process.

I had my RNY 8/10. My surgery weight was 280. I quickly gained 14 lbs by day 6. My doc put me back on my diuretic I had been on for years. Overnight that 14 lbs was peep back off. Now I am losing slowly. My Fluid continues to fluctuate. I am 12 days out and weigh 271. I wish it were more. BUT... I started at 303 in May, and when I look at the big picture, that is much more than my usual diet track record!! So I am happy! My tool is working!! I am hoping that with exercise and proper use of the tool, I will make it to 183. I lost down to that at age 18 and wore a size 14. I am grateful for every little bit lost.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
