effbeingfat 5 Posted August 21, 2016 I'm 9 days post op and on full fluids. I can eat 1/4 cup of cottage cheese without getting that full feeling. Is that normal? I am hungry as well. I can't wait to move on to pureed food as I am so limited right now.

Cottage cheese or other foods of the same consistency go through your sleeve quickly so you won't get a full feeling. Your stomach is still healing and can't tell your brain when it's full. You should also not eat with the intent to be full (only satisfied). That's why it's so important to stick to the portion sizes recommended by your program. Your hunger could be acid or head hunger. Be sure you are taking a PPI and getting enough fluids.
Alex Brecher 10,515 Posted August 21, 2016 @@madisunshine1, Congratulations on your surgery and weight loss so far! If you’re tolerating that variety of foods, you must be recovering well, so that’s great! Hunger doesn’t always go away post-op. It may be something that you need to get used to, and it may go away in a few months or so. I wonder about your surgeon’s guidelines to have 400 to 600 calories per day. That seems really low. I would expect a goal of 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day. Another thing: you said you’re getting your fluids in, which is great! If you feel overly hungry and don’t want to eat, you could try drinking even more. It’s unlikely that you would get too many fluids. And finally: it is fantastic that you are recognizing your hunger, eating healthy foods in response, and stopping when you are full. That is the habit that will give you success forever.
