rydersmama 804 Posted August 17, 2016 Just a question for anyone who has reached their goal weight. I'm 5'5". My original goal weight was 180lbs. Because I've spent the majority of my life weighing well over 300lbs, I never thought I could even weigh 180lbs. So I got to 180, and wasn't happy with how I looked, so I'm trying to figure out a new goal weight. I weight 179lbs now, and think I'd like to be around 160. What I'm asking is for anyone who is close to my height to tell me what their goal weight ended up being. And yes, I'm aware that everyone is built differently, and happy at different sizes, I just want an idea of what I should be shooting for. WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) 160 certainly is reasonable for your height which is the same as mine,. It's your choice, of course, but let me suggest that you not make a major issue of "goal weight." You may be thrilled one morning to wake up and recognize that you love the way you're feeling -- the energy level, the improvements in health concerns and appearance -- and then you see a mouth in the mirror saying "Honey, I'm home!" How gorgeous a surprise would that be? Edited August 17, 2016 by WLSResources/ClothingExch
Babbs 14,681 Posted August 17, 2016 I chose a goal weight of 150 just because that's in the high end of "normal" range for BMI for my height, which also happens to be 5'5". I ended up going 7 pounds below that at my lowest, and am currently 5 pounds below. I would suggest going as low as your body will let you to allow room for some bounce weight that seems to happen to everyone a few years out.
ella37 455 Posted August 17, 2016 You lost over 100 lbs!! AMAZING! I'm a little shorter at about 5'6 and 1/2 but my reality based goal is 150, which is a perfect size 10 in jeans and M on top for me. My fantasy world goal is 130, lol. I chose my goal based on BMI (high end of normal) and a weight I've been comfortable at before.
rydersmama 804 Posted August 17, 2016 Thank you! I've lost 155lbs now. Based on my bmi, my "normal" would be 145lbs. It seems crazy to me to get to that weight, but hey, 180lbs seemed out of reach too, and here I am, so who knows! @@Babbs, I agree with your thinking....I'm still losing at a pretty significant speed, so I guess I'll just keep going as long as my body lets me. Thanks!Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App You've lost a 155 pounds and are still going strong? You're phenomenal. I agree with losing as much weight as your body reasonably lets you. My original goal was 150, but it kept notching down. My BMI is currently 21 from a high of 32, and I'm wanting to lose a bit more. I am relatively tall at 5'8, but have a very narrow frame. My wrists are so tiny that I've always had to get watches taken in for them to fit. My mom is 5'5 and about 110 pounds but still looks healthy because her frame is so small. My best friend is probably around 160 pounds at 5'6 (haven't asked, of course) and looks fabulous due to having broader shoulders and hips to carry the weight, and being so muscular. In high school she likely weighed about 10 pounds less, and looked fabulous then too.
rydersmama 804 Posted August 17, 2016 @@Clementine Sky Yes, definetly agree with that. I already have people telling me I'm "too skinny", but I think it's because they're so used to me being 335lbs. I've always been told I'm "big boned", but now that I'm getting to a more normal weight, I'm not so sure about that Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

LowBMISleever 381 Posted August 18, 2016 5'6" dr's goal is 150, but I know I look best 135-140. My goal is 128 because I want to have an allowance to gain a few pounds during maintenance, as a little weight gain sounds inevitable from what everyone says. OzRoo 1,492 Posted August 18, 2016 @@rydersmama Awesome weight-loss. Congratulations! I am also 5'5, and reached my surgeon's success goal weight of 162 Ibs yesterday. Well, I want to go lower, as I still look bit overweight. My personal revised goal weight would be 143 Ibs, and my stretch goal would be 132 Ibs. So, I am still plodding along, and hoping that with sticking to my food plan, I will lose more. I have a longer journey to maintenance, but as mentioned in other posts, it is best to lose as much as I can now, before it gets tougher, or re-gain happens. Good luck to you
