Essence46 493 Posted August 17, 2016 Today, I am wearing a size 12 dress. Soooo much better than the size 20 I was wearing 2 years ago. However, when I look in the mirror, all I see is that size 20 girl. Will this ever change?
higher 966 Posted August 17, 2016 Have you tried looking at pictures of yourself instead? That helps me. I had the opposite problem pre-op. I always thought I looked stunning in the mirror. Never ever saw the size 16-18 girl that I was. But when I saw photos that other people took of me I saw it and it was devastating. Now that I'm post-op and starting to lose I still look the same in the mirror but I see the difference in photos.
Essence46 493 Posted August 17, 2016 @higher I see photos of myself and I am like "Wow! I look so different". But it's something about that mirror that only sees the size 20. I need to work on this. I really do.
Healthy_life2 8,324 Posted August 17, 2016 @@Essence46 Congratulations on the size 12. I hope the body image will change for you. I worked with a counselor on seeing myself as a smaller package. An option to try. Get a piece of clothing that is a size 20. Try it on in front of a mirror. Sometimes you need that reminder of how far you have come. KristenLe 5,979 Posted August 17, 2016 @@higher I am similar - I never realized how giant I had become. It was a picture someone took of me when my great-niece was born that made me cry - and I had to ask my niece not to post it on any social media sites because I looked so horrible. Don't get me wrong - I know I'm fat and I don't like the way I look (I avoid mirrors) but I just can't believe how bad it really is. I look forward to taking an updated picture with my great niece on her 1st birthday and posting it all over Facebook and instagram!
chrisredjeep 357 Posted August 18, 2016 I think that I will always be seeing the big person in the mirror. However when I look at the size of the clothes I am wearing it does hit home that I have lost a significant amount of weight. Well done on your weight loss
