I tried posting this in the powder room but it wouldn't let me so here it goes.

Ok I'm 27 and had my surgery about a month ago at the end of my period and it I got my period last week I think Tuesday or Wednesday and today I'm still spotting my period has never lasted this long could this be because of the rapid weight loss ? I've lost about 40 since surgery and I have very bad anxiety over things like this so can you help me please ?

Oh yeah. The stress, your physical and food changes can totally contribute to an irregular menstrual cycle. I won't go into detail with my own menses tale of woe but let's just say that a 12 day event has never been normal for me. I'm sure you're good but if it's really concerning you, then schedule an appointment with your obgyn.

Fat holds hormones, when you dump fat, it releases hormones into your body, floods it really. You can expect spotting and irregular periods for a while. After a lifetime of clockwork periods mine are now irregular.

As was mentioned above, hormones are stored in fat. As fat breaks down, those hormones are released back into your blood stream and cause all sorts of havoc: irregular periods, mood swings, increased fertility, etc. It should level off as your weight loss slows.

I had my surgery in December 2015 and my periods are just as bad as it was before the surgery. I told my doc about it and she scheduled me for a vaginal and pelvic ultrasound. turns out I have uterine fibroids. I made an appointment with a recommended GYN for next month. At that time, the GYN will tell me what process I need to take. Your irregular periods could be from shock of having surgery and hormones, but make an appointment with your doc just to put your mind at ease.

I had my surgery back in February and before the surgery my periods were always irregular which caused me to be on birth control to make it stable. Now that I've lost 50lbs, my periods seem like they are even more out of whack. I never really go off, it will get really light like I'm about to go off then I'll spot for a while. This month I've been on my period for almost 3 weeks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
