My nutritionist had hopes that people would give up caffeine, but she is also a realist and knows that people want their coffee and has no issue with it (black coffee) if you are drinking 1-2 cups per day.

It's the ones who drink a pot or two a day with cream and sugar that have real issues I think.

We were only told to stay away for a few weeks post-op because coffee is acidic and could irritate a healing sleeve. I have no issues drinking a cup or two now. Doesn't irritate me in the slightest.

So for the past 2 days now I have been reading everyone's experiences and I applaud each and every one of you for having such discipline and to those struggling, my prayers are with each and every one of you.

I have been overweight my entire life. The past 10 years I have gained and gained so much that I am now just over 350 lbs this is the heaviest I have ever been. I have developed sever arthritis in my left knee and can start to feel my right knee going. Thankfully, I do not have high sugar or blood pressure no issues with cholesterol or anything like that. I do get winded VERY EASILY, stairs are my enemy. Walking in general is painful. Since age 5, I have suffered from Migraines and take a medication (when they strike) that contains caffeine.

I started following a few people on Instagram who had WLS and was amazed at the transformations. Over the past 10 years I have done my fair share of diets losing a few pounds only for it to come right back and then some. I was a member of a gym, I would go a few times a week. But then the arthritis kicked in hard core to where I fall down a lot. Dr after dr mentioned WLS. after finding out recently that my insurance covers it I got the support of my family and currently am set to meet the good Dr on September 9.

I joined this site a couple days ago to see the experiences, ask some questions and everyone has been very helpful! Thank you all!

I understand this surgery is not magic. It requires dedication, hard work and sacrifice.

I adore carbs, bread and Pasta is life!

Coke, ginger ale and soda in general I can not eat without. chocolate... Dear sweet love of my life chocolate. candy not so much cake.

I am willing to part with you all. I know I will miss you and maybe, just maybe we can have a stolen moment together in the future.

The deal breaker for me with this WLS is coffee. I could give a crap about tea and booze. But my beloved coffee I caN not do without. Wait, let me rephrase that. Without coffee , heads will roll. I am willing to give up smoking (cigarettes) I don't do drugs don't care about booze. And willing to leave behind my chocolate and carbs. I hate to say it but coffee may be the thing to stop me from doing this. Thanks for reading.

This sounds like a conversation you need to have with your surgeon. Your medical team can help you weigh risks and rewards.

My surgeon said Decaf is ok. I am fine with that. After surgery your tastes change anyway.

@@proudgrammy I spoke with hubby about it today, he said why are you torturing yourself? Wait until you actually see the Dr and find out what the plan would be for you.

Makes sense. For all I know he might say yes, coffee is fine. Heck for all I know he may say hubby is bad for my health lol.

I have been enjoying strong coffee every single day since my three month postop appointment with my surgeons approval.

It's created zero problems.

Please keep in mind that your tastes may change radically after surgery. I was a complete bread and Pasta addict before my sleeve surgery, and now, I can barely stand them. No craving at all. Even though coffee feels like the center of your beverage universe now, it could change.

I gave up coffee and I LOVE coffee but I love my kids more. My father died early this year from heart disease. Heart disease is a slow decline that robbed my father of a better life. He was basically home bound for almost a year with constant medication. Guess what was a contributing factor? Yep, obesity. I felt like I was at a fork in the road: on one side the life I was leading which would inevitably lead to a decline in my quality of life and a painful death or doing something to improve my health so that I could live better and spare my children the burden of my choices.

If you can't do it for yourself maybe you can do it for those who love and need you.

Obviously it doesn't have to be GS but surely you realize that your body especially every year you get older is suffering the effects of being morbidly obese? I was 341 in my late 30s and it was happening to me, enough that now at 41 I had to do it.

I couldn't have coffee 24 hours before surgery and for a week after, as per my plan. My nut said coffee is ok but for every cup I consume I need to replace it with Water because it's a diuretic.

I went cold turkey, no coffee during the pre surgery liquid phase, the was allowed 1 cup a day in mushy phase. I also had bad knee pain, now 3 months out they free great. The sacrifice is worth it. Give up a little now get great rewards later. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
