Gas pain is no joke!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on August 8, 2016. So I'm 13 days out.

Just an FYI for all new sleevers... If you end up with gas trapped in your abdomen it is some of the worst pain ever! I have been good for several days now but, last week it was so bad that my doc was concerned enough to do a CT scan on me to make sure a staple didn't slip on me, have a blood clot, a pleural effusion, or even pneumonia. It literally knocked the breath out of me every time I moved and was located on my left side and shoulder. All I could do was walk, walk, walk! And lots of rocking back and forth. So this is a post for folks struggling with pain. Of course, go to doc to be sure everything is ok, but don't talk yourself out of walking due to pain.

Yes I am feeling better, thank you! Now I'm just worried because I can't seem to get the little bit of energy back that I had before the surgery. No matter how much protein/fluids I take in, I'm still so sluggish. My surgeon was telling me about something they call NEAT calories. He explained it as no matter what, your body is burning calories even if you are asleep. So when I start getting figity around 7-8 pm it is because of energy that I've burned by doing nothing. Makes sense but it didn't tell me how to get my lost energy back...lol.

It takes time - you just had major surgery and your body is trying to heal. All your energy is going into that.

I had horrible gas & still do a month after surgery. Every evening I feel awful like something is stuck in my stomach. Sometimes if I take gas relief tablets, it will quiet down. I had 60 g of Protein today but haven't been able to drink very much Water. Some nights I can't even force myself to swallow my pills. I had a bad abscess that put me back in the ER & had to be admitted. The dr said that the abscess was the reason my stomach is taking longer to heal. I too don't have very much energy - just taking a shower & doing my hair exhausts me!

I hate that everyone feels tired and weak but it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one. I start my college classes back tomorrow and I'm praying I can do it. Luckily it's a community college with a small campus but UGH! Today has been really rough and I'm having a lot of shoulder and neck pain. I had applesauce last night and ate 2 small pieces of zucchini that was cooked until soft and now I'm feeling a little queasy today too. I just want to feel better!!!

Veggies can be difficult to digest this early out. You also have to be careful with seeds (zucchini, cucumbers) as they can get stuck in your staples or incision and cause complications. Try sticking with things with Protein such as cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, strained or pureed Soups (no rice or pasta), greek yogurt, etc. Be sure to get plenty of fluids. You may still need to supplement with Protein drinks or shakes. Be sure to bring Water and Protein Snacks to school. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
