Benefits of self paying in the states vs mexico

Recommended Posts

Im wondering if your are self paying what are the benefits to having surgery states side. I'm assuming you get post-op care for x amount of months.

If you do the surgery in Mexico is post-op all on you, examples figuring out diet, local support groups. I know I'll need the emotional support and chatting with others about their experience to be successful and stay motivated. So I wondering if I should pay the extra money for local support. THOUGHTS??

My first thought is complications... if something goes wrong in the short term (after MX) you have to deal with a local physician/facility and get them up to speed on you. Will they be able to get medical records from MX? If something was done inappropriately and you find out only afterwards, what is your recourse? Can you sue someone in another country or will they tell you to piss off? If your surgery is botched, will your insurance throw a tizzy to get it fixed; refuse to pay for repair, etc.

Tons of iffy questions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
