I'm scared of flabby skin

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow morning. The only thing that keeps popping in my head right now is having flabby skin. I'm 245 right now and anticipate an 80 pounds weight loss. I feel like when it's all said and fine I'll look like a walking sheet like a ghost.

I was scared of sagging skin too especially my arms. As soon as I got clearance from the doctor, I started doing arm weight training. It has really helped. Good luck.

Sagging skin won't kill you. An extra 80 pounds of fat might.

Is sagging skin a risk? Yep! But it's not a risk to your life!

There are a few things you can do to try to lessen it. Keep up with your hydration, moisturize daily, take your supplements, and try to "fill in" some of the loose skin with muscle. If you get to the end of this journey and loose skin really bothers you, you can always have plastic surgery to remove it.

Its normal to be afraid of the unknown. You goal is healthy.

I started at 254 I lost 119 pounds

I can't afford plastics. I have loose skin on my mid section, back, arms, butt, inner thighs and my boobs are deflated. It's all manageable with shape wear and a good bra.

This is where I'm at after 2 years. It was worth all the loose skin in the world. :)

I've lost 200 lbs. Yep - I have sagging skin. But it's easy to hide. And I can tell you now that I'd take my saggy skin *any day* over weighing 373 lbs! Once you get your weight off, you'll wonder why you worried about it so much!

I am flabby, but I don't even care. I am still so much smaller and more comfortable it is worth it.

@@kayse At 286 lbs, I don't look good naked or in clothes - at least after surgery I have a chance of looking good in clothes! ;-) There's no point in worrying about sagging skin - concentrate on weight loss and being healthy!

Good luck with your surgery and recovery!!!

I am still waiting for my approval from insurance for my surgery, but I worry about sagging skin too. You are definitely not alone there.

All the ladies above definitely just helped me see that I am worrying for nothing because the end result is the only thing that matters.

I do a bootcamp class here in Texas called Camp Gladiator and it has helped me tighten up the skin I have from losing the weight I have when I started in January. Definitely weight train when you are able to.

Wish you the best of luck with your surgery!

Yup.

I remember the last few weeks leading up to surgery. I was a bundle of nerves and had weird and irrational hangups. All that went away the very first hour I was post-op and recovering from surgery and had my first lap around the hospital under my belt. It's been great ever since.

If loose skin is resultant....then there are ways to deal with it when the time comes. No worries. No need to ponder it for now is how I've approached it. Getting the dangerous weight off has been the most important priority.

I disagree lol I weigh 288 and I look great naked... I think we have to remember the big picture, this isn't about looking "great" that's something you have to figure out yourself, its about getting healthy... At 300 pounds or 140, I will love myself just the same. My self worth is not defined by a number on a scale.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
