So I have not been able to talk to my surgeon since I had my Upper GI. The results show "Mild Reflux". Do you think he's going to want to do a Bypass instead of sleeve? I will be sad if I can't get the sleeve. Anyone have these results and still get the sleeve?

I would think that your dr can only make a recommendation as to what they think is best. It's your body, you decide. Besides, if it's only "mild reflux" it may not be a problem or it may be treatable. If you get the sleeve and it's just unbearable, they can convert it to the bypass to cure it.

@@KristenLe I don't think that they will tell you that you can't get the sleeve for a mild case of reflux. I have acid reflux as well, and my surgeon is still letting me do the sleeve and prescribing me omeprazole for it!

Mild reflux probably won't prevent you from getting sleeved - but only surgeon can give an definite answer on that. You may have to play with dosages of reflux meds for a while after surgery. There are people in my support group who had reflux before sleeve and just had to really work on finding the right dosage after but for most of them, they were still eventually able to come off the reflux meds.

What ever happened with this? Did he give you the "go ahead" for a sleeve? Just saying, bypass ain't that bad

I have an appointment on 9/14 - so I'll find out then I guess. The RN said she didn't think it would be an issue. I just want surgery ASAP - at this point I don't care which. I'm beyond ready to start losing!

I hear you! It's been a long process for you. Your insurance approved it if I remember? At this point they need to give you a DATE! Lol. When I received my approval, I immediately scheduled my EGD and my surgery at the same time- two weeks apart.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
