Weight, Protein & Exercise Goals

Recommended Posts

My surgeon said that I should walk 10,000 steps a day (approx. 4.5 miles) in an hour. I'm doing that. He said I should eat at lease 60 grams of Protein a day. I'm doing that. He said I should be drinking 64 oz of liquid a day...I average 48. My calories aren't topping 1000 a day, because I'm only supposed to eat two meals a day right now. So, he said my weight goal should be between 205-210 by August 31st. I'm at 220 and with all that the scale is not moving. It's been 5 days now...no change. I don't get it. I don't see how I'm going to make my goal at this rate and I'm getting real sad. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Why only eat 2 meals a day? To me, that is a sure way to wreck your metabolism.

My Protein target is 100 grams a day. So, I have to eat frequent small meals and Snacks. 60 grams of protein is on the low side. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. It also keeps our metabolism stoked.

I highly recommend you do everything you can to get your fluids up. You definitely don't want to wind up in the ER due to dehydration. 48 oz is low, especially if you are exercising.

I also recommend that instead of focusing on a number on the scale, you focus on getting in all of your fluids and protein. In my opinion, not getting enough Fluid and not eating more often is going to negatively impact your weight loss. Staying off the scale can be a good strategy if you let the numbers on the scale influence your emotions.

Also, please keep in mind that none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Everyone stalls, and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks post-op. I don't know when you had surgery.

Embrace the Stall

I agree with Inner Surfer Girl. Focus on getting your fluids and Protein in first. I have the same issue with not getting enough fluids in. The more I drink, the more I lose:) Stalls are definitely normal. I've had a few that lasted two weeks and then boom, lose 3 pounds in a day! It's crazy. My nutritionist also told me to eat 2 meals a day but that doesn't work for me. I find that if I eat 3-4 times a day, I can get my protein in and am not starving, and losing more. Good luck!

At my last support group meeting, one member was saying how she hit a stall doing everything she was told. When she upped her calories a little bit, she began losing quicker. She wasn't eating enough and her body was going into starvation mode. Something to discuss with your NUT.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
