Questions about recovery time?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am considering doing the VSG procedure but I'm really nervous about the recovery time. I am in a competitive and rigorous doctoral program for physical therapy and I don't have the ability or leisure of taking any time off. I am going to have a break next year for a month and a half (the only break I have until I graduate in 2 years...). Is this enough recovery time? I need to be SOMEWHAT physical when I return to school in September (nothing really crazy, but I need to be able to life light loads and bend)... Is this realistic to be healed enough in 2 months to do this? I really value your honesty and opinions, thank you guys!

-Melissa

Most people are back to work in two weeks, tops. Obviously, every person is different, but I think it would be safe to say that a month and a half should be plenty of time to recuperate and be back on your feet with light activity. I was doing all housework, grocery shopping, cooking, etc after a week.

I think so, I work in the medical field in a Ltc facility I returned 3 weeks post op and now it's been 5 weeks ... a little tired in the beginning, but I stayed on program took my Vitamins and got my protien in and most importantly got plenty of rest when I got home .. no need for you to delay school good luck with whatever you decide

Two months is plenty of time in my opinion.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
