So I had my last appointment with the surgeon today and he said that I had a few gall stones that were about two centimeters and suggested that we remove my gallbladder during the procedure is this really necessary? are there any benefits to removing it?

2cm gallstones are quite big!

I had to have my gallbladder removed in 1996, as I had 1 large stone, about 2cm, size of my thumb.

I was having intermittent sharp pains, like being stabbed on my right abdominal side.

I had it removed for 2 reasons: 1. It was becoming more and more painful for me, and 2. I was worried that if it travels up to and obstructs my common bile duct, this could create a life threatening situation.

So I had it removed laparoscopicly.

If you can have it removed at the same time during your gastric sleeve, then in my opinion, this would save you from possible complications later and re-admission to the hospital for another surgery.

Quite a few sleeve people end up having their gall-bladder removed months later.

Good luck!

I didnt know it was that serious! Wow. it sounds like its pretty common to have it removed i just didnt know how medically urgent it was. I will definitely have them do it then.

Thanks :-)

I had mine removed when the surgeon did my sleeve and my hernia was also repaired. Losing weight quickly tends to cause problems for some people whom didn't have their gallbladders removed before having the sleeve. You are going in for a surgery anyhow and since you have stones it would be best to get it removed.

@@Pinkberry2 Definitely have it removed or you will end up having to have a second surgery to remove it shortly after. Go through the discomfort and pain once! You definitely don't want to wait until you have to have it removed - the pain of a gallbladder attack is excruciating!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
