Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.

Recommended Posts

Gotcha. Same for me. My tray consisted of broth, tea, sf lemon ice, and sf Jello in the hospital. Once I was home, the same, but Protein shakes 3 times daily.

I'm only on day 4 post surgery...already getting anxious to lose and I'm not even healed yet!! Lol I still have some upper chest pressure (gas). Hoping that goes away soon. Just wondering when I can expect the scale to move. Lol

Thanks for your response

the scale moving can vary widely. how efficiently does your body get rid of the IV fluids - how quickly does inflammation go down and stomach swelling go down. other comorbidities can slow down or speed up early weight loss. :D but we were all anxious for that scale to move, since being overweight was what got us to the table in the first place. Hang in there, follow your program and your body will surprise you with the changes both to the scale and not on the scale.

That's an interesting food plan. They wouldn't even let me leave the hospital until I showed I could drink at least some of a Protein shake. You could try Isopure, it's a clear Protein Drink. Comes in a bunch of flavors.

I'm 6 days post-op. I've complied with my Clear Liquids and now I can't stand them. The idea of drinking broth or eating another popsicle turns my stomach, and I think yesterday was the last day for the SF Jello. I called my doctor's office to see if I could have a Protein drink or possibly pureed Soup. They asked if I was feeling weak and suggested that I drink SF Gatorade/POWERade (barf) but no to my request. I decided to drink coconut Water (100%, no sugar or flavors) instead.

So serious question has anyone just decided not to eat?

My follow up is Thursday and assuming all goes well I'll be allowed "soft food" apparently skipping the puree altogether, so looking forward to that.

I know there's this argument that the facility imposes this for a reason but this is a blanket protocol applied to everyone and I did not have co-morbidities or pre-diabetes. I'm just plain ole fat.

Thanks for reading my long venting post.

I started to "cheat" around day 8 too - the liquids were very monotonous. I didn't start eating anything fatty or hard/tough but I began to eat some soft foods then - just chose carefully and ate slowly and I was okay.

Thanks for your reply. What you said makes sense. I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow for my first visit post-op. I'm feeling good and I'm sure things will start moving along when they should. Thanks again

I had no problem with 2 week pre-op diet. Now that I'm 11 days post-op I can hardly stand to think of any more shakes. I have 18 more days of liquid only and my taste has changed. Sweet drinks taste horrible to me, the Soups aren't very good either. Help, I am going back to work in 7 days and need to find something that doesn't turn my stomach.

Is it common for food to taste different following surgery?

I would think (hope!) your doctor has a good reason to keep you off Protein during this stage. I've yet to hear of a doctor that did that. Protein is critical. I had to drink Water based Protein shakes.. I liked the premade Atkins ones for convenience and they tasted better than most (some flavors) That's how I survived the clear liquid stage. I still never want to look at Jello or broth again!!

Sorry I'm on liquid diet, cosisting of Water based Protein Shakes and Soups. 64 oz. of water required and 70 grams of Protein. Reread instructions and ordered genpro to add to yoghurt and Soup. I'm hoping this tastes better than the premade ones I've been eating for the last 4 1/2 weeks.

There's a lot of food that I used to love and now can do without. Pretty sure it's common for our likes/dislikes and tastes to change. It sure did for me ;)

I'm stumped by that! I don't understand why you cant have Protein drinks! They are what was pushed the MOST for me and everyone I know who has had this surgery. I hope you get it soon. I ordered "Genepro" from Amazon. It is medical grade Protein and has 30 grams per small scoop, not sure if you actually absorb the entire 30 but as with any supplement, you don't absorb all of it. I put it in my Water as its flavorless. It does thicken the Water slightly but I don't mind it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
