Cas79 0 Posted August 15, 2016 Hello! I am new to the forum. I have a BMI of 37. I am about 5 ft 1 in and 201 lbs. Up until recent lab work I had no co morbidities to go along with my "low" BMI. However, my labs showed high total cholesterol and LDL. Neither my PCP or surgeon suggested starting on a cholesterol medication. I have UMR insurance, my surgeons assistant told me they seem to be less picky for approval. Just wondering if anyone else has been approved with lower than 40 BMI and newly diagnosed cholesterol, HTN or diabetes. Thanks!
justhere4theshow 462 Posted August 16, 2016 Normally those are comorbidities that require unsuccessful treatment attempts, but your insurance may not require that. Call your insurance company and ask for the requirements. They will probably just read it to you from your policy documents, but it's a good place to start. Doctors may be able to influence their decision if it's "iffy". Good luck!!!
