Anyone have any ideas of foods to take with you when your on the run? I am usually really busy running errands during the day. My nutritionist told me to do 2 meat meals with vegetables, no fruit or starchy vegetables and 2 Adkins shakes.< /p>

lunch is the hardest thing to plan for. Does anyone have any suggestions?

you could take a little lunch box with a cold pack and roll up cheese and lunch meat. like a wrap but without the bread part. you can wrap it in leaf lettuce if you tolerate that well. or wrap the lunch meat around a cheese stick. sometimes I wrap the cheese and lunch meat around steamed asparagus.

I think you should try the pure Protein bars for lunch when you are on the run! Works for me! Good luck Lisa

Good idea, but do the pure Protein Bars have carbs?

Not much but my surgeon said to concentrate mainly on protein! 6 months out and I only eat 500 calories a day and some days less! Try to only look for Protein i.e., Greek yogurt, almond milk

Walmart has a good selection of tuna packets. I need to look into if similar chicken packaging is available.

If you need to do fast food, you can find something at places like Arby's, Wendy's, Subway, Chick-fil-a and even Taco Bell.

Just avoid bread, breading, and fried foods.

For instance get a turkey (or other lean meat sandwich) without the bun, grilled chicken nuggets, etc.

Have zero appetite!

I guess that's good in a way. You will have to remember to eat at least 3 times a day (my plan says 5-6) to make sure you aren't damaging your metabolism with so few calories. Try adding a little healthy fats into your diet to increase calories. Supplement with a shake if you're not getting enough Protein. You should carry a few single size servings of almonds for a snack. I also like baby bel cheese.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
