Hey everyone! My name is Kat. :) I am saving my $$$ as we speak to get my band in March. Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated! I do have a few questions though...

I am getting my band in Mexico. Is there anyone out there who was banded there? What was your experience? Who was your Doc?

I can't get my surgery until March but want to lose weight now before hand. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get down when you're an emotional/compulsive over eater? Has anyone tried OA? :hungry:

Hi Kat! (Waves)

Mexico has some wonderful doctors, ask around and I'm sure many will help you.

The best way I know of the lose weight is to increase Protein and decrease carbs.

Hi, I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez in Acuna on 8-9-07. He had a wonderful staff and everything is going well. I met the patient cordinator in San Antonio and was transported into Mexico the following day.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Traci banded 8-9-07, down 18lbs

Actually, I think I am going to choose Dr. Rod as well. I have heard nothing but great things about him and the staff there. I'm glad no one is blasting me on here for going to Mexico. Almost everyone I know is telling me I'm going to get butchered.

How did you feel after the surgery? Were you in pain? Where did you have to fly back to? I live in PA and I'm worried that the flight and the pain will be too much....

Kat

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so I just drove down to San Antonio with my husband and daughter, then went into Mexico by myself. Pain was not that bad, they give you pain medication to take for several days, which I found very helpful. I think the pain will just depend on your tolerance.

Good luck with everything...I think that Dr. Rod and his staff were great and am very pleased with my decision.

Traci

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
