I am still in the purée stage as I am only 2 weeks post op.

HOWEVER, I know we are supposed to follow a sugar free low carb diet but...have you ever tried to find sugar free anything at a grocery store? It's next to impossible. I mean good lord milk even has sugar in it!

Is there a certain amount of sugar that y'all allow yourselves daily? Like maybe shoot for under 10g of sugar/daily?

What is your daily cal/carb goal for 2 weeks post op?

I don't have a nutritionist since I was self pay. If I could do this over again, I would have gone through insurance so I could have the pre op counseling and nutritional info necessary to be successful instead of overwhelmed and on the verge of tears 75% of the time.

Sorry you are overwhelmed. I am surprised that even being self pay, your surgeons office wouldn't have a nutritionist or someone you could ask questions of. The office staff have loads of good info where I go. Perhaps you could make some inquiries.

I agree that most everything has sugar in it but in all my years of dieting, I never counted sugar, just carbs. My surgeon had us follow the south beach diet for 10 days pre op which is low carb, high protien. I bought the book (super charged version) and it has great info, meal plans and recipes. I refer to it still. Maybe that would help.

I avoid added sugars, not all sugars. I just try to keep the sugar content low. I especially avoid high fructose corn Syrup.< /p>

For instance, when looking at a Greek yogurt I aim for a Protein content greater than 10 grams and sugar content of less than 10 grams.

I have to get 75 grams of Protein, women from my doctor have to get 60. Water wise, which includes Protein drinks are 64 oz, and my calorie total is 600, for a month post op. Maximum of 30 to 45carb grams. After one month, I get to have mush foods, that are the consistency of cottage cheese. You can go to BariLife, com which is my surgeons group. It has stages and what you can and cannot eat under his guidelines, and suggested meals etc. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
