I was reading through my information today and saw that my dr only requires liquid diet the two days before, and just to continue the high Protein low carb up until surgery. I had a friend who had lap

My doctor requires 2 week liquid diet for vertical sleeve. Just to shrink my liver. I think it depends on the patients current weight maybe

hehe You all are definitely lucky. When I had my lap bad back in 2009, I had to go a strict diet (can't really remember the details anymore) and now I'm on pre-op diet for a revision for 3 weeks, ALL liquid diet... Yeah. Fun fun lol.

I'm having the BPD/DS and my doctor wants me on an 800 calorie diet for 4 weeks before surgery. I don't know if it's liquid or not. I hope not! I do know I have to do a colon prep though. I've had a colonoscopy done last October, so I know it sucks!

During the VSG procedure the liver has to be lifted up and held out of the way so the surgeon's tools can access your stomach.

It's important to shrink the liver prior to all the smallish tool used to lift it will not damage/bruise/tear the liver.

I have a two week high Protein 600-800 calorie diet to shrink the liver, but only one day of clear liquids.

Mine is one week 1000 cal high Protein low carb no sugar diet, and 1 day liquid only.

Their practice goes by BMI the more weight you have to lose the longer the pre op diet

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
