I am on day 9 and I want to have a bit of boiled chicken with a small peice of potatoe and gravy I plan on chewing it very well I am not doing well blending my food. And no doctor is helping me I'll let you no how I get on .

My dietician indicated that starches such as potatoes would hinder my weight loss. I was told to say "NO" to rice, Pasta, potatoes, bread etc for six months and after six months to limit them. Did your doctor or dietician give you the okay to eat the potatoes? I'm just curious... Good luck with your weight loss.

My dietitian said tiny bit of potatoes on soft food but no more than twice a week. No rice, grains or bread till you have lost 75% of projected weight loss. I know they are all different. We all have our own doctor and dietitian to follow their guidelines. Still interesting to see how much they vary.

I was allowed mashed potatoes during the puréed stage. The rule was Protein first, vegetables then starches. I never got past the Protein though. I could only eat a couple tbs and was done.

What the doctors tell me makes no sense to me the way I see it it's not even a whole potato I ate, and I had a slice of a chicken and gravy this is no way what I use to eat it went down ok I chewed very well and had Water to and a yogurt afterwards I think all our body's are different I tried it and it went down perfectly I took my time and ate it I really enjoyed it.

If not, where did you get your medical degree from? Where did you do your Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery?

Drinking with meals is also a no no. Just because you think something went down fine, doesn't mean you actually didn't cause internal harm. You're still healing! Doctors didn't get together and come up with the post op diet to make people suffer. You NEED to follow the directions your doctor has given you!

@@Ruby81 The post-op diet is prescribed for your safety. Eating off plan (regular food) can cause significant complications - some life threatening! This is not something to take lightly. I hope you don't have any problems.

Where did you have surgery? Were you educated at all before hand? It bothers me that doctors perform this surgery without giving clear instructions to their patients.

A nutritionist (nut) would help you a great deal. If your surgeon does not have one available to you, you really need to find one that is bariatric qualified.

If you don't have a meal plan or access to a Nut. There are TONS of bariatric meal plans online

@@cindyw41 It sounds like she was given info from surgeon and just doesn't think it makes sense. Scary.

By her other posts it doesn't seem like she was given much information. I'm so glad my surgeon requires a 7 month mandatory nutrition class. I was extremely prepared and aware of what my life would be post surgery.

Instead of shaming and talking shit, why not offer good advice instead? All of you negative nancies are doing more harm to Ruby than good by reacting the way you are. If she's made to feel dumb, she'll never come back to ask for advice again and that is the real tragedy.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
