Congratulations on your weight loss of 172 pounds. There are two phases to RNY gastric bypass surgery. These are the Weight Loss phase and the Maintenance phase. I was in the weight loss phase for approximately 7 months and then I slid into the Maintenance phase. The goals and strategy for these two phases are different. They require a different approach. This is my perception of the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

Weight loss in the Weight Loss phase is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
One thing to do now at this initial stage is to assess your Protein intake. Your protein requirement is met by a combination of the protein from your meals combined with the protein from your supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Since your meal volume has increased, that also means that the amount of protein from meals is increasing, especially if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals. Therefore you could be able to reduce your reliance on protein supplements and the calories they contain. I went from 3 Protein Shakes a day, down to 2, then 1; and finally zero when my meal volume increased to 1 cup per meal at a year and a half.

after eight months at the same weight you're definitely in maintenance. If you want to lose more weight, you'll have to cut calories. I just cut back to 1000 (from 1200) because I was afraid I was slipping into maintenance, and I wasn't ready to do that yet.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience stalls.

Maybe I read this wrong. If you've been at 236 for eight months, you're in maintenance. If you're eight months out from surgery but are just saying you weigh 236 (and have been there for maybe a week or two), then it's just a stall. Just keep following your program and the weight loss will start up again. I'm still losing at 15 months out and have had several stalls along the way.

Based on her surgery date she is 1 year 8 months post op and it is likely she has slipped in to maintenance mode. The only way to deal with that if you are not ready to stop losing is to reduce your caloric intake.

For me to lose I have to stay around 900 to 1000 calories, under 100 grams of good carbs and 70 grams of Protein.

You need to figure out where your losing range is because you are in maintenance.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
