Interesting Podcast on Weight Loss Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I recently came across the Weight Loss Surgery Podcast on iTunes, and I have found really interesting and informative.

It's done by a bariatric coordinator and nurse in Oregon, and she has over 70 podcasts up so far....most are over an hour long. She interviews doctors, researchers, bariatric bloggers, psychologists, exercise experts, and patients with a compelling story.

If you are an information junkie like me, or info you can listen to on the go, check it out.

I'll give you a link to this particular episode, which covered the topic of weight set point, the biology of weight, and why bariatric surgery works differently than any other solution. Hope you like it, there's tons to listen to in her archives:

I just finished listening to this podcast. I am going to have to listen to it again to make sure I understood it the way I thought I did.

One of the things that he touched on is one of the things I have learned over the past few years trying to deal with my weight. All calories are not the same. What we eat and how it affects our bodies varies.

This is one of the papers he refers to often during the talk. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4240228/

The set point and regain are really important to listen to and that is the part I want to listen to again and pay close attention to.

Thank you for sharing this.

Totally welcome, and I agree... There is so much in there that it is worth listening to more than once. I picked up a lot more the second time I listened to it.

I love this podcast and have been a regular listener since the beginning of the year. Reeger is wonderful and I'm so grateful to have all the info she shares. That podcast on set point and regain is saved on my computer because it's so good. The other good one I really recommend is this one on the biology of body weight http://www.weightlosssurgerypodcast.com/056-randy-seeley-phd-the-biology-of-body-weight/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
