Low-mid back pain.....too much protein?

Recommended Posts

On my second week of high Protein, very low carb, and I am getting that same mid-low back pain that I got when on Atkins years ago. I remember it very well, BC it's sort of in a weird place, not typical back pain.

Anyone else get this on high protein??

I certainly overdid the protein yesterday w too many shakes (177 grams of protein total), so I'm going to slow down on the protein (keep it at 90) and add in some fruits and veggies to up the carb/protein ratio. And double the Water to 128 ounces today.

Just wondering if this is common?

I don't think drinking 177 grams of Protein is normal so that could be causing the start of Constipation which might give you the low back pain issue.

Is there a reason you are eating/drinking that much Protein? Your kidneys have to work much harder to process protein and that would definately make sense.

I would suggest just getting to your goal whatever was given to you by your nutritionist and see if it gets better.

It is good that you are able to drink that much Water and protein 2 weeks out. I was lucky if I could get one shake down in a day with the Water. And the water is even more important in these first few weeks than the protein.

Aren't you on a 2-wk pre-surgery diet? You seem to be drinking way too much Protein and you said you were going to add more fruits & vegetables? I'm going to be starting my 2 wks liver shrinking diet soon and was told 2 shakes per day with 1 lean cuisine for supper. Just curious?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
