Do you use liquid Motrin (Ibuprofen)?

Recommended Posts

I have occassional back pain that won't get better very quickly unless I take ibuprofen! I just take 4-5 tsp. at a time.

I understand why we can't take ibuprofen pills, but I figured the liquid was OK.

Does anyone else use this occassionally?

I tried it during a toothache saga but it's so gross it's hard to get down. My way of getting gross things down is to plug my nose and chug it. There is no "chugging" liquid motrin, it's like drinking bubble gum flavored karo Syrup. It's just too gross. Gahhhh

The grape flavor is disgusting. I find the berry flavor to be much more tolerable. I'm beginning to really hate liquid medications....reminds me too much of my childhood and all those earaches and sore throats and endless tablespoons of some gooey yellow sulphur-tasting medication. Some kind of bactrim, I suppose. OMG. YUCK. I can still taste it.

I have a confession... I use injectable drugs now. :) I use Toradol in injectable form. No taste, no mess, no grape, berry, or bubble gum flavors. Just a poke and it's done.

I'm with you, liquid drugs are disgusting.

Not sure how old you are but remember penicillin liquid from forever ago? They used to cover the mold taste with banana. I will NEVER forget that!

We can't get liquid drugs up here in Canada. Post-op I had to rely on a pill crusher.

My surgeon told me I can take regular pills just to drink plenty with them and or warm liquid even. He said your still swallowing it into your stomach its not going to hurt anything. He bases this off the Australian Dr's who have been doing this much longer than us and with much fewer restrictions. I have only had to take some a few times and did not have any bad effects from it. He said it will not cause erosion.

Each dr is different though, I cant stand liquid meds either.

That's what my doctor recommended, also. If I get a headache, I still take Advil liquigels.

And if anyone is considering the Tylenol reditabs or whatever they're called (supposedly mint flavored), DON'T. They are completely disgusting. Seriously, I tried them once and nearly gagged on it.

I do the liquid-gels too. It's the only thing that touches my headaches before they blossom into Migraines and I really get in trouble.

THe adult strength liquid Tylenol (acetaminophen in the US, paracetomal in the UK) tastes HORRIBLE. I literally gag on it and have to fight like hell not to vomit after taking it. But it was the only thing I was allowed right after my surgery. (other than codeine tablets that made me rea-a-a-lly loopy.) Ugh. no fun.

THat reminds me I should chuck the rest of that bottle in the cabinet.

Won't the liquigels get stuck if you're restricted? And if they do, aside from the obvious discomfort, that medication is SO caustic and hard on your stomach lining. I'd kill for 3 Advil right now. My back is hurting and the liquid stuff just isn't cutting it for some reason. Prolly cause I need to drink the whole dang bottle (at $6/bottle!) to get the action of 3 pills!

Terri...

I have a hunch you'll just have to suck it up and drink the right dose of the gross stuff. LOL!

See why I use injectable Toradol? Toradol is like strong Motrin. Works for me.

I was just told by both my family doctor and pharmacist to use the children's version of tylenol, gravol and imodium - just double the dosage. I am one of those freaks that loves the taste!

At the time that I was living in France it was possible to get certain meds in the form of suppositories. I had prescription narcotics in this form. Though I was initially surprised it made sense. Your system got the drug and your stomach wasn't left feeling ruined. If I remember correctly I think you could get anti-nausea meds in this form, too. Again, a logical approach because you sure aren't going to barf suppositories up. It seems that meds are not available in this form on this side of the Atlantic. We just aren't comfortable with taking our meds via the other end. Kind of a bummer for us lapbanders, eh.

Hi TerriDoodle!

I've used my pill cutter and cut the regular Advil in half and taken them a few times when I was pretty desperate with a bad headache. I wouldn't recommend doing it regularly but it worked when I needed it!

I'm with WasABubbleButt, just stick me or let me do it myself!!!! :heh:

I've been using the Extra Strength Liquid Tylenol, but would really rather Ibuprofen for my aches/pains from the gym, realizing it would be more effective for me. Where do you buy liquid Ibuprofen? I have tried the pills, but got worried about it when someone from my support group mentioned the problem of it sitting in your stomach longer and possibly creating ulcers....not sure if it's true, but why chance it?!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
