My doc said 6 weeks and to take it easy because the alcohol may affect you faster then before surgery. He doesnt forbid anything and says you have to have a life. I have followed his plan and it is working well.

Had a glass of wine the other night and it took me a very long time to drink it because I didn't want to get drunk. Well, it didn't really have an impact. And it didn't burn.

I know what my triggers are and I am avoiding them, but enjoying a glass of wine is something I will do on occasion.

To be fair, I lost the bulk of my weight mostly avoiding alcohol (maybe 1 or 2 times a month after the first month) but now, when, I can't stomach the idea of eating any more food, I find that a couple of glasses of wine is a good way to get me close to maintenance. My labs are still stellar and my body composition is still improving, but if that changes maybe I'll re-evaluate. I follow mostly a Mediterranean style diet and I don't think you can disassociate wine (yes, even every day) from the well documented health and weight benefits of the diet.

Well. That escalated quickly.

I

It always does.

Ain't that the truth!

I would like to just say, this is my second time being a member here. I am 5 years post op. I was a raging success having gone from 321 lbs to 182. However, we are all here for the same reason. We have a lifelong struggle with food. Some days are better than others. Some months are better than others. Everyone has a different experience or story to tell, or we have all learned things that may be helpful to the next newbie. By no means should we be looking down our noses and verbally slapping anyone. This was a horribly difficult choice for some people to make. Some of us have family members who act like we are cheating. This makes the journey so much more difficult. And even though we are different, we still long to be somewhat like everyone else. Sometimes the difference is hard to show to others for fear of judgement. As hard as it is, let's be honest, not everyone here is going to keep all their weight off. I being one. I put some back on. Mainly because I didn't keep up with a good support system and I bought into bad habits. I came back here because I love the people here. They will always support everyone in their journey. I needed that. I am so thankful. We all should be that there is a place like this to go to. If you don't like the posts, then maybe this isn't the place for you. But for the rest of us who second guess ourselves from time to time, we rely on experience to help keep us going on the right track. As for me, I will always be there to help anyone with any question at any time.

Lots of love to everyone out here tonight! We got this!❤️

@@LowBMISleever "My comment was for the OP, but I don't take anything I said back. If it offends you that alcoholic beverages are empty calories that cause weight gain, then there's not a lot I can say. It's factual information. On a side note, I rescue dogs and your name implies you do too. I support that :)"

You were complaining about the entire conversation and it not being 'supportive' to you. I know alcoholic beverages are empty calories and that's not something that's 'offensive' to me...I'm just not a huge believer in demonizing something that is allowed on our plans (most everyone here is allowed alcohol at some point) and something that I know is going to become a part of my long-term life. I don't like being nannied by strangers, and it seems I particularly dislike it when that stranger is calling people out for being non-supportive of HER dislike of alcohol use in a thread titled 'alcohol'. That's all.

And yes, I'm a big rescue supporter and I'm glad you are, too. I've got two awful little rescues running around right now, barking their fool heads off and making my heart feel full <3 All of us have something in common at the end of all of our differences, don't we? Peace :)

This is always an entertaining topic. I have no issues with someone drinking a glass of wine, drink, etc. It's a little scary to me how very soon post-op folks are slamming down shots. It's very easy to trade one addiction for another. Not to mention the complications you could have with alcohol causing bleeding and problems with healing. Although - I don't think, as adults, anyone should be scolded. It's their choice. If I decide to have a drink before my plan allows - I will not try to seek validation from a forum. Just as I won't ask if I can have pizza a week post-op. You know the answer!

Oh...and I rescue dogs too!

I think you nailed it...I don't come here to seek validation in any way, so this kind of stuff really annoys me. Most of my validation is internal, and then from my circle of people. And then from my rescue dogs! :D

I'm starting to love this saying a LOT. It can be applied in any situation, to any 'side' of any discussion...well done, Dub!

Well. That escalated quickly.

Are you surprised? I was surprised that it remained civil for so long!!

No offence but if you are this easily influenced by the choices that others make about their own lives, you should stop stepping outside of your house. There are fast food restaurants and people who could be eating something that your doctor would not allow you to have.. Imagine the horror..

Let's be nice to each other. At the end of the day, it's a personal choice.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
