lutheranian 13 Posted August 12, 2016 I'm 5.5 weeks out and am sick. I have a cold that thankfully hasn't developed a fever. Is this normal? I NEVER get sick, but I figured such a big change to my anatomy and diet has weakened my immune system. Any advice? I don't want to take any OTC medicines because a lot contain aspirin and I was instructed not to take NSAIDS. I also started a new job this week (hello stress!) so I feel like a train hit me. Any advice? sympathy? I'm so pitiful when I'm sick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
OzRoo 1,492 Posted August 12, 2016 @@lutheranian I was told no NSAIDS for 30 days post op, same with Fish Oil, vit E etc Yes, in my opinion you could well have lowered immune system due to the trauma of the surgery, changes in diet, and your body trying to recover. As well as another stress of your new job. If you have pain, and don't want to take aspirin, how about Panadol/Paracetamol? My long term recipe for avoiding colds is Vitamin C and Zinc tablets. This has worked for me for many years, and I rarely get sick now. I take powdered Calcium Ascorbate (vit C), mixed in Water and bit of juice, and high strength Zinc tablets. Both are great for boosting the immune system. I just hope that it won't upset your stomach or give you nausea. I always take these 2 after a meal, never on an empty stomach. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!
kmorri 1,689 Posted August 12, 2016 Why not give your surgeon's office or PCP's office a call and ask for suggestions on what you should take? There's no need to suffer.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted August 12, 2016 @@lutheranian Stress lowers your immunity. I swear by Airborne and Vitamin D. Talk to your Dr about what you can take - you don't want it turning into an infection. Feel better!
