Just got home from the hospital today... not sure I'll ever be able to drink this much!

Recommended Posts

I know that's a bit dramatic. I was sleeved 8/9 and had major effects of anesthesia (crazy nausea, violent dry-heaving up foamy stuff). It only subsided last night and I was able to come home today. I did have IV fluids from midnight until 8am, but I've probably only had 15oz since and it's 5pm. I'm assuming I won't hit the 64oz target today, but I'm so afraid to overdo drinking an be nauseated. My surgeon told me to sip from a 90cc medicine cup over a half an hour... well even if I did that for 24 hours straight, it would still only be what - like 48oz? lol

I guess I just need reassurance this is ok for this soon post-op. I'm so afraid to vomit after what I went through initially post-op. I even refused all pain meds from right after surgery on hoping it would help.

Also, crazy burping - is that normal? My surgeon said it means I'm going too fast and things aren't moving along as they should - but I don't know if I can go any slower...

Thank so much for advice!!!

You'll get there. Just give it some time. Your tummy is not very happy with you right now. I was sleeved on 8/3 and I am ALMOST up to 64 oz per day. Its something you have to work at, thats for sure. I even keep a bottle next to my bed and if I wake up at night, I roll over and take a few sips. Every single chance you get, take an extra sip. And remember that since you'll be sipping your meals for a little while too, even sipping your Protein counts. This is like a second job! Its WORK! But you can do it, YOU HAVE TO! And your tummy will protest. But find what helps it to protest the least and stick with that until you have healed enough to move along to something else. This part wont last forever, at least thats what they have told me on here. ;-) And there are some pretty cool people on here! Good luck!

Drinking fluids does not trigger restriction. If you have a live swallow test, you can see fluids draining into your small intestines instantly. It slides right through. If you chug, which I doubt you can do just because your throat is probably sore, you can drink too much too fast, which is why you might be burping.

There is no issue with being able to drink a lot early. You are lucky, you are healing better than most. Drink all the Water you can and stay hydrated.

Oh my a bit over two weeks from my sleeve. Yes it is a full time job getting in liquid, Vitamins, and Protein Drinks. I didn't think it would be so difficult and time consuming. You just have to keep your eye on the prize. Yes belching is a part of the process. Especially that first week. It does get better it is still a challenge for me. I signed up for this so I am going to do the best possible job to be everything I want it to be. We all are unique and different how our body handles everything. One thing I have learned from this site you will see every opinion in the world as well as experiences. Also every surgeon and dietitian has their own rules. Best to follow what they tell you. It is good to hear from everyone else but we should all follow our docs advice. I find it quite entertaining seeing what everyone else does. It just shows how different we all are. Any serious questions should be directed at your physician. Lol. Hope you have a great day and have faith in the process. That is what I have heard anyway. Lots of nice people on here for encouragment and chats.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
