Insurance Co. requires 6 months of documented medically supervised wght loss plan

Recommended Posts

Hi Pnw Red, I jumped right in and got all my Dr. visits done. All I have to do is finish the 6 month diet. Then they can send in all the paperwork for final approval. With all the Dr. visits done when the approval comes the surgery date should be quick.

I haven't gotten the surgery yet. From what I read on here, You must not miss any appts. thats very important to keep everything documented. Then towards getting at the end of your six months go to your gp and get your referral for your labs and such.

Did you all start communicating with your ins company at the beginning though? Let them know you were starting this to verify that you met all their other criteria? Or did you just start the testing and dieting and then submit it all at the end?

The Dr.'s office contacted the insurance company. The insurance company then sent me a letter with the requirements. But I already knew them from the Dr's office.

I was already on the diet when I received the letter from the insurance. Hope this helps.

At the beginning of my latest weight loss attempt, I had not even anticipated have the surgery so I did not contact my insurance co. right away. I wanted to try a new way of eating to lose weight and keep it off on my own. Of course, there is reason to rejoice because I did lose weight; but without the meds and supps, the weight has been creeping back up. I am now having joint pains and fatigue. Hopefully, they will let me know something soon if there are other requirements that need to be met. I am ready. Just a bit nervous though.

Yes. When I got the call, the girl in charge of submitting the paperwork to the insur. said that I needed to go ahead and have my psyche test and computer test. I have already made an appt for that. She said that they have what they need in my med chart.

Thanks all.

My annual appointment with my doc got postponed today, so I'll have to wait until next week I guess. I'm going to go ahead and get an appointment set up with the surgeon's office and my doc's office and then start the process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
