Pre-Op Diet Hunger Distractions

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow is my first day of a three week liquid pre-op diet. I'm not really that concerned with cheating but I am worried about being 'hangry' all the time. Does anyone have anything that worked for them to keep them distracted?

Tomorrow is my first day as well. I feel the same way. I just keep telling myself to keep busy and the end result will be worth it

Honestly its all mental, Im on day 3 of the stray liquid liver reduction diet because my surgery is Monday and when Im "hungry" I stop an think am I hungry or bored or think its time to eat. The Protein shakes fill the real hunger for me so far.

I have to tell you - I was concerned just like you and it really is just not that bad.

I started on the 2nd for surgery on the 22 and I am almost never really physically hungry.

I am still making all my daughters meals and sitting with the family to eat and it's not bugging me too much....

When she is at camp and I'm home alone I do have a little battle with head hunger and I've been doing little things to help with that - read a book, call a friend, walk around the block, take a nap, take a shower - and when I'm really desperate I clean lol.

But for the most part what has helped me the most has been acknowledging that it's just head hunger and deciding to not give in to it.

I'm counting on keeping myself busy but I know there's going to be times, especially at my job in between clients, where I will be just sitting there with not much as distractions. I'm determined to power thorough though!

Why do you have to do three weeks? Isn't it normally two? That stinks :(

I hate all the Protein shakes I've tried! I started my liquid diet yesterday and my surgery is on the 23rd. I could also use a friend on here having surgery around the same time to talk to.

Have you tried GNC Total Lean 25? Those are the only ones I can stomach! We should totally keep in touch during the process, it's so helpful to have people to talk with who are going through the same thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
