Anyone with a low BMI (30-33) had sleeve surgery or will be?

I had about 90 Ib to lose, so far I have lost 70 Ib (32 kg).

The only noticeable loose skin for me is in my upper arms, and my breasts are flatter.

Everyone heals in their own individual way, and there is no set rule on the amount of loose skin.

Age, amount lost, general health can influence the post op body condition, as well as strength training.

Having said that, I still prefer my loose upper arm skin than being obese!

Good luck and best wishes for your surgery :)

My surgeon said I didn't need to follow a pre op diet. Did anyone else get told that ?

No, not for me.

I had to go on a 2 week mild diet. 1 or 2 Optifast shakes, and lean Proteins with non-starchy veg, 1-2 fruit per day.

It wasn't too bad.

Perhaps due to your lower BMI and less weight to lose, this could be the reason.

Although, my initial BMI was 32, I was told I still needed the pre-op diet.

Since then I had to wait 9 months to be sleeved due to discovery of my Graves Disease (hyper-thyroid), I was told to come back once my thyroid was stabilised.

So, when I was finally approved for the sleeve, my BMI was 37.

The pre op diets vary so much, right down to whether you have one or not.

The main reason, from the surgeon's perspective (as I understand it) for the pre-op diet is to get rid of some of the fat enlarging the liver. The liver must be navigated under to access the stomach. Since you have only 50 (I know, it feels like a lot and it is a lot, but in bariatric land it's a low amount) pounds to lose, your surgeon is probably thinking that your liver doesn't need to be shrunk prior to surgery.

I had 5 or 6 days of a pre op diet, with 40-60 lbs to lose (depends who you ask. I say 60). I am glad I did it, because I stopped caffeine, alcohol, and many of the higher carb foods I was used to before surgery. So that was one kind of adjustment that I had already started to make, and I think it made things somewhat easier. I don't think that it was a big deal, however, and I could have made the same adjustments post op without the pre op diet, just as you will!

Trust your surgeon's team (and your own questions, which they should answer). I think that even without a pre op diet, it's a good idea to get a few different kinds of Protein Meal Replacement powders and try them to see which ones you like. Your taste preferences may change after surgery, but at least you'll have a sense in advance of some that you might like.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I love this thread.

I'm having my op on Wednesday and hope to lose about 50lbs. Does anyone who's lost around this amount have loose skin ? I want to prepare myself. Thanks for the support in this thread. It's very helpful.

Wow, your op is coming around very soon. Good Luck!

So far I have lost bit over 70 Ib, and I can notice some loose skin in my upper arms, bit in the groin area and my boobs are flatter (but smaller, thank goodness!).

Everyone is different, it depends on age and genetics, how quickly one loses weight, amount of resistance type training, and other factors that I may not know of ......

With 50Ibs you may not end up with much loose skin, but you won't know until you are closer to your goal weight.

Type " Loose skin " in the Search button, and see the threads and posts on this topic.

I'm down 40 pounds as of today and have no loose skin. Started at BMI 29. Going to lose 10-15 more pounds. I'll keep you updated. HOWEVER, I work out everyday and lift weights 60 minutes 2 times a week.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
