Which surgery did you choose?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm interested in hearing from people on their personal experiences on why they chose the type of surgery that they did (sleeve, bypass, etc). If anyone wants to share what the determining factors were in their final choice. And were you happy with your choice or do you wish you had chose a different option?

I am in the UK. I thought long and hard about each type of surgery and quite honestly I could not decide which one. Each had the benefits and disadvantaged. So I was offered the opportunity of entering a research trial where a computer randomised me into a surgery. It choose a band and I can truly say I am happy with this decision. I am a great believer that everything happens for a reason.

After speaking and meeting with my surgeon he was very kind to speak to both me and my husband. He asked about my eating habits, weather I ate large quanities or more of a grazer. I wanted a surgery with least amount of risk that would be a good fit for me. He suggested that he thought the sleeve would be best for me. I believe a good surgeon will help you with that decision. 2 weeks post surgery and very happy so far with my decision. Good luck.

I did a lot of research on the various procedures before I ever met with the surgeon I chose. I went into the meeting confident that VSG was the procedure for me, because it was the least invasive and didn't change any of the "plumbing". After the initial tests, the doc thought that VSG was right for me based on my age and starting weight, and felt I would get the results that I needed from VSG, so that's what I did, and I am so happy about the decision. It's really been a life-changer for me.

I would definitely speak with your surgeon. I'm glad I did the research that I did, but I'm even more happy that I chose the surgical team that I did because that, to me, has made all the difference in the world. Not just the surgeon but his entire team has been absolutely amazing. I can see why he has patients that fly into Vegas from all over the world to use him. The entire experience was and is great....and they are always available for questions, whether by phone or by email, no matter how small the question is...truly a great resource.

Best of luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
