My ex-lover has an issue with me getting sleeved

Recommended Posts

So the other day my ex and I went out. He noticed I was losing weight and asked me what was I doing in order to lose weight. I took a deep breath and told him that I had gastric sleeve surgery. His face changed immediately, I quickly snapped and asked what? He stated "well my mom had the lap band so I know how this goes". I asked him what is that supposed to mean?

He said all these negative things like what about loose skin, you know you have to work out with the surgery, basically all the things I knew about.

It basically wasn't what he said but how he said them. I just wanted to slap him. I'm not a sensitive person, but he struck a freaking nerve! I guess because he was all over me when I was fat, but now as I slim down he hates me... I have no idea, I mean he is an ex, but apart of me still cares about what he thinks. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

BAH. he's an ex for a reason.

I have no idea what my ex thinks or will say - but I am sure the kids have told him. I'm sure he's seen pictures of me with the kids.

It's hard when people have their opinions about your journey - but you will find your own way.

You are going to encounter haters along the way on this journey. Especially the ones who "know someone who had WLS and didn't do well". Recognize that their words are a reflection of them and their own issues and really have nothing to do with you. As for this specific person, like you said - he's an ex and there is probably some insecurity there in not wanting you to move forward into a great life without him.

He is an EX-boyfriend for a reason. His ignorance EXceeds his EXpertise about WLS.

You need to EXplore different people to go out with.

1. Agree. Ex for a reason.

2. Thank goodness you are a woman fully grown who can make her own medical decisions.

3. Walk away and don't look back.

4. Why would you care about someone who treats you that way?

5. Congratulations for making a wise decision about your health and quality of life.

Why tell an Ex... And why does he care? He lost the privilege of having an opinion on your life long ago. When you tell people your private business you give them the opportunity to give an opinion whether you want it or not. It ok just to say thanks for noticing. You have no obligation to tell them any more.... Thanking and ignoring the question is not lying.

Oh honey, didn't your sisters/mother/girlfriends tell you that "we can still be friends" is a bullshit lie? Even guys know that.

You all are absolutely correct. I was repulsed by him the entire time. It was an excellent learning experience. Believe me, I am not a fan of hard lessons so I will never hang out with his ragged a $# again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
