3 months Post-Op Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Started my journey early March by meeting with surgeon & his team. Completed all psych, nutrition, exercise, medical processes by mid April. Surgery was May 10 & as of yesterday I have lost 26% excess body weight, which is 41 lbs.

I lost 11 lbs pre-op (10 weeks) and 24-25 lbs post-op.

Still learning what foods work. Some meats give me a tough time. My Protein Shakes are my new bff

Hope everyone else's journey is going well!

Well done! Congrats on your 3 months post op :)

My op was early March 2016, and I lost 55 Ibs (25 kg).

I have occasional problems with beef, so I don't eat it often, yet veal is OK. I find fish and chicken the best for me, as well as yoghurt.

I recently discovered that soy sauce also does not agree with me, makes me bloated and full of gas. I love sashimi style salmon, but can't dip it in soy sauce.

Yes, it is a learning curve with which foods are OK versus troublesome foods. I also tried a scone/muffin, and this almost made me sick. I was so nauseous after eating only half of it.

For me, I tolerate well the good foods, healthy ones. Processed ones and sugary baked stuff does not agree with me, and chocolate gave me an awful reflux, just as well, as I was a chocaholic before.

Tried ice-cream few times, and all that sugar put me to sleep, was so tired afterwards. I am staying away from both ice-cream and frozen yoghurt, as they are both trigger foods for me, and once I start, I find it hard to stop.

Having fruit instead now for deserts. I love all the melons now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
