Hi - I've been reading here for a very long time, but this is my first post.

I am in a desperate situation with my VSG and need some advice. Back story: I had a lap band placed in 2006 and was very sick with it for a long time. I met with my surgeon last September and we decided to revise to a VSG. I did the six month supervised diet and everything for insurance. Revision was scheduled for April 19, 2016; in the recovery room he tells me that he could not revise to VSG because I had far too much inflamed scar tissue and that we need to wait four months for it to calm down and revise then. OK.

So - VSG scheduled for 8/15; all is well. Office called today and asked to move my surgery to tomorrow morning; I am slated to check into the hospital at 9am. The surgeon called me shortly after I agreed to tell me that there is only a fifty percent chance that he will be successful with the VSG procedure due my scar tissue. I told him to go for it anyway and that I trust him.

I am 46. I was 257 at my highest and am now at 190; my goal is 130. I have lost and gained HUNDREDS of pounds over and over and over for the entirety of my adult life and was hopeful the sleeve would help me end this cycle and maintain a sensible weight.

So - do I go forward with the surgery tomorrow and hope I'm in the positive fifty percent and that it is successful? Do I give it up and try once again to forge out a thinner life on my own?

I'm very stressed and need advice.

Thanks!

nothing ventured, nothing gained.

in otherwords, wouldn't you rather go for it and risk it not going forward than to not try and always wonder if it would have made a difference for you?

most everyone is nervous and a little scared right before the surgery - so that is normal. but from my point of view on the other side of it, it is worth every bit of what I went through.

I can understand your apprehension. However, the potential payoff is pretty darn high if the sleeve can be performed. And if it isn't possible, then firstly, you tried and secondly, you can fall back to plan B which is to regroup and look at your other options. The best of luck to you.

If he can't move forward I would expect your recovery to be easier than with the entire procedure. And if you get the whole procedure, it's what you want. If you trust your doctor, go for it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
