IveGotThePower 395 Posted August 10, 2016 I am 50 lbs down from my HW of 290 and needless to say, my clothes are getting pretty baggy. I think if I hold out for another 15 to 20 lbs I can do a regular size 18 and have more choices. But not sure I can hold out that long. When did you break down and buy new clothes and were you glad you did or do you wish you had waited a little longer?
KristenLe 5,979 Posted August 10, 2016 I know a lot of people get in between clothes at consignment or thrift stores. I wouldn't spend a lot before you stop losing. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
BigDog Bryan 262 Posted August 10, 2016 Simple advice is to buy a few pieces at each stage. A 50 pou d loss means that NOTHING fits, so a couple of things that do fit will do wonders for your self image, your spirit, and you will be thrilled to see a number that was unimaginable before your surgery decision. 2-3 looks should suffice, and be ready to repeat the process several times over. Congratulations, and enjoy the changes to come!!!
Kathy812 794 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Like the others mentioned, just a few pieces at a time. When I got down to a size 16 ( I had started at a size 20 & some 22's), I got so excited because spring was coming so I bought more clothes then I should have. I was a 16 for LESS then two months. The tags were taken off the clothes, so I was unable to return them . A very costly lesson. Thrift stores and clearance racks are the best places to shop right now. Get a few basic color pants or skirts and keep repeating. tops usually can be worn a bit longer (more forgiving). Definitely get a couple pieces because I believe seeing yourself in smaller clothes is very motivating. Edited August 10, 2016 by Kathy812
thisgirlhunts 94 Posted August 10, 2016 I'm at the point now where I need to shop for new clothes as well. None of my dress clothes for work (I'm a teacher) fit anymore. Like the other posters, I've been visiting thrift stores and the clearance racks at places like Kohl's. Trying on new clothes in smaller sizes has been fun! I bought a large shirt yesterday--a large!!! I'm also trying to recoup some money by selling my "too big" clothes at a local consignment sale that's held each fall and spring. It's well-known in my area and I've made some cash there before selling unwanted items. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
daniotra 298 Posted August 10, 2016 I went to the thrift store and got some pants when the crotch started sagging and rubbing on my thighs. $8 for two pairs of capris and a pair of jeans. Woo-hoo! I can deal with too-large shirts for a while longer. I was 55lbs down at that point. I went from a snug 26 to a comfy 22. I thought about trying to make these pants last long enough to go down another size, but decided it wasn't worth it. I would recommend getting a couple pair of pants, because proper fit means comfort. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
IveGotThePower 395 Posted August 10, 2016 Ok, BigDogBryan, you are right. Nothing that fit before fits now. The things I am wearing are really things that were too small before, but are too big now. What a terrible problem to have Loving it right now. Thanks for all the advice guys, just told my hubby that the experts have spoken and this weekend will be a thrift store weekend for me!
