bridgetsband 16 Posted August 9, 2016 Hi everyone, Before being banded (July 29), I would drink at least 96 ounces of Water - usually more. Since being banded, I'm having a very difficult time even drinking 32 ounces. I think I'm very dehydrated (dizzy, weak, headache...). Any tips on getting enough water? I'm almost to a point where I might go get an IV because I feel so bad and almost faint. Thanks in advance! WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted August 9, 2016 I'll work on the belief that 96 ounces was your own choice, not what was advised by the surgery practice? Space the Water out and start early. I had trouble drinking the recommended need 64 oz. and found it easier it start with one cup immediately out of bed. Within half an hour I have a second with synthroid (which requires a full cup). If you don't have meds, drink the second cup just because. After that, it gets easier. Have another the half hour after Breakfast and another the half hour before lunch if not earlier. And so on. You'll be at least half way to goal.
bridgetsband 16 Posted August 9, 2016 96 was before surgery and on my own. Surgeon recommends minimum 64 and I'm barely getting half of that now. Partially out of fear of drinking too fast and vomiting Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Dancing Fool 29 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) Another method for getting enough Water which might work for someone who is nervous about drinking a lot at one sitting is to sip constantly through the day. Use a water bottle with measurement indicators to check your progress throughout the day. Just little sips, but take them often throughout the day. Once you've had a bit more time with your band and what it can handle, I think you will come to feel okay about drinking a cup at a time. Water should trickle right on through past your band, so it shouldn't be a problem. I can understand, though, being nervous about such things those first few days after being banded. WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted August 9, 2016 It may also help if you drink tepid Water or even slightly, luke-ish warm. Cold Water sometimes goes down hard, especially in the morning or at whatever time is one's "morning."
Tayfusion304 39 Posted August 9, 2016 Take Water and freeze it in those Popsicle molds and sip those after they are frozen of course Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sometimes when I only have plain water available I noticed that I'm not reaching my water goal. But if my drinks are flavored then sometimes I even chug it down (not to the point of vomiting) because it's much more palatable. I like Diet Fuze, Diet Snapple, and Powerade Zero since they are sweet, zero calorie, and not carbonated.
