I'm on stage 3 now and I'm allowed saltines, can I have cheese itz? I'm having a hard time eating and only get in about 300 calories a day.

My surgeon gave me a list of crackers that he allows and cheezits are not on it. They probably have more fat and carbs. Can always ask your nut.

That is a question for your nutritionist/bariatric team.

BUT:

I would think ----NO

Crackers are just too tempting with too many carbs with very little benefit.

I am five years out and still treat crackers --especially Cheetos!---like the plague!

Really though, give your team a call. They will be able to guide you on your specific plan.

I eat Cheez-its sometimes. I eat goldfish crackers everyday. I also remember that shortly after surgery crackers that had too much flavor (which is usually higher fat content) made me super sick. In theory, if you can eat saltines you're fine eating Cheez-its, but they are more likely to make you sick than boring, bland saltines.

I have 3 saltines on my plan for some "meals" hummus or chicken salad. Sometimes I just have parmasean crisp instead less carbs when I have saltines I get the whole grain premium brand (the main nabisco saltine brand but with whole grain) or Annie's brand. Crackers are a big area of conflicting opinion as much as my team is conservative on many things I have them as an option on my soft meal phase

I am confident that cheese it's would not be allowed they have little nutritional value and a lot more calories, sodium and fat.

Cheez it's are good. Baked and 3g Protein. Just chew well to a paste like consistency.

cheese Itz are baked yes, but the have 8 grams of fat per serving. That's the same amount of fat as Doritos, which start out as fried tortilla chips.

I would stay away from them bc of the fat alone.

How about string cheese, or a mini baby bel cheese, so you get some nutrition as well?

String cheese is not a cracker. She asked about crackers.

Sometimes you just want to have a crunch.

again, she asked about crackers. She didn't ask for the 'best idea'

Thank you so much for opening my eyes!

Cravings should be the ultimate answer in this WLS game for sure! Who cares about being nutritionally sound?!

Cheese-itz are an awesome idea!! Pass the box!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
