With RNY you have to be on acid reducers long term. It helps to prevent ulcers. It is a mild dose once daily but pretty important.

My surgeon requires this of his sleeve patients too. I don't know if this answers your question about the medicines.

A little bit about which procedure is right for you. My recommendation is to do some more research on the life after and long term effects of each surgery (Not that you haven't already been doing that! Cause you probably have been) I found some great books through the library.

There might be something that helps you reach the best decision for you. I hope that helps.

Best of luck!

Honestly I think its up to you. I chose gastric bypass because I had so much weight to lose and because I already suffered from GERD(been on pills for years) getting the sleeve seemed not right for me. With that being said my surgeon is optimistic that in a month or so I wont need my GERD pills at all.

Now on the flip side I met a lady at my surgeons office who was about where I am, but she was having the sleeve. Her choice. You're surgeon can recommend, but ultimately its your choice(with insurance approval and all)

Dont quote me on this but I would assume overtime your GERD symptoms would improve greatly. And you have to think that maybe some things that are your triggers prior to surgery may be something you may never eat again.

It's never too late, until its too late

Mina Dina:

I met with my surgeon yesterday for my consult, and I told him about my gerd, and im gonna have an scope procedure. But what he said was, that what he is seeing with sleev patients, is 4 or5 years after the sleeve the gerd is coming back, in addition to some people having it about 3 month out of sleeve surgery. Now I thi k Im leaning toward the gastric bypass. I dont want to go through surgery again with a revision.

Thank u. Its funny some people with gerd improve with the sleeve. Some have worse gerd than before the sleeve. So confusing

Have they ordered an endoscopy for you? If not they should. I had the same issue and come to find out I have Barrett's Esophagus and an hietal hernia. That means I am

Not eligible for sleeve any longer and have to have the Ren y. I really encourage you to get an endoscopy as if they open you up and you have ulcers, hernia Eric they will not complete your surgery!

Well if our you I would have the bypass I went from bad conversion to sleep and with acid reflex issues even worse after the sleeve now I have no choice but to do the gastric bypass. With people on my support group I've noticed that there acid reflux got so worse with the sleeve. And those who went straight from band to gas bypass couldn't be happier in my opinion which is just my opinion Id go straight for the bypass

Laliza: during my consult the surgeon basically said that, that " many people are havibg bad gerd 4 to 5 years out, from the sleeve". The surgeon said "the sleeve is easier and faster". He also said i could have a revision if I had problems"

I said I dont want to chance it. RNY is the way I will go.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
