Hi! I am very seriously considering LapBand Surgery, and have been doing research for the past couple of months. The ONLY negative feedback that I have heard about LapBand, has been from Bypass patients, who have each told me of horrible experiences that they each had with Bypass, but as stated above, would go through it all again for the success they have achieved.

My fear, is the fact that I eat for so many reasons other then being hungry. In fact, being hungry is rarely why I eat. Can someone enlighten me? What do you do when you are NOT hungry, but feeling stressed, bored, lonely, etc.?

I am not able to physically eat anymore when I am not hungry. For me that is a sign of good restriction. That is what I enjoy most about my band! I have learned to eat only when hungry. I do lots of things now that in the past I would eat. I exercise quite a bit, but that is a good obsession. I also write, read and play with my kids more. Trust me, it is hardly ever an issue and if it is I go get a fill and I am all better!

One thing with the Bypass, if the stretch their pouch, they are just stuck and done. If we do, we get to start all over again! SO it is almost fool proof!

I agree with the others who said your DH's friends are probably thinking gastric bypass. Most people do not know the difference between the available bariatric surgeries. I have had several people tell me that they knew someone 10-15 years ago that had this surgery...they've done well, ect. (They've all been supportive). Well, lap band was not approved in the US until 2001 so I know they are thinking of something else but I don't argue with them because it's kind of a pain to try to explain the difference. The end result will be the same.

Aloha Lynn

I know just how you feel! I was so scared but I am so glad I did it. Was banded on 7/11/07 down 40 Lbs. Post Op. Then on 8/29/07 my DSW the most precious thing in the world to me, got her band. And belive me when I say if I hadn't of felt 100% comfortable with it I would not have let the doctor within 100 miles of my wife. All went well with both of us and were doing great. But we both read, read and read some more about the band and the procredure before deciding to have it done, and we asked a lot of questions. So my advise to you and your husband is to the same, read, ask questions and talk to a lot of people about the band , I mean people that have had the band, on this site you can get both sides, good and bad. Hang in there I wish you all the luck in the world, besides marrying my wife it was the best thing I've ever done.

Aloha

Dave

Rachel,

Don't be scared; the procedure takes about 45 min to an hour. I was wheeled into the OR and the anesthesiologist put the mask over my mouth and I was out for the count. Next thing I knew I was in recovery asking for pain medication (which didn't last too long). After about 3 hours I was up and walking. Was able to sip a little Water around 6:00p.m. I would encourage that you get up as soon as you are up to it and start walking. This helps get rid of some of the gas and makes you feel better. The next day, I was discharged and now I feel pretty good. I do have a dull pain where my port is but it is tolerable (i'm sure it go away, since it has only been 3 days). So.... DO NOT BE AFRAID. This is something you won't regret.

I am scheduled for surgery on Sept 21st and I am also nervous. I often think I may die during the procedure. Pretty silly, huh? I think it is normal for most of us to be worried and a little scared. Honestly, I am not worried about the pain or having an object in me, after all I've been carrying two rolls around the last three years. Ha Ha Ha I am concerned about being under anesthesia. I have researched and prayed and this time it feels good. Earlier this year my husband was not on board with the idea, so that made me insecure. Both of us have researched and now we know its pretty safe and appropriate. I am about 50lbs overweight and in good health, I don't want to wait until I'm unhealthy to do this. I'll keep in touch and let you know how it goes.

I wanted to do this 4 years ago, however my ex talked me out of it, citing the same kind of horror stories. Now we've been separated for over a year and I had it done 2 weeks ago.

It's the BEST thing I've ever done! I keep thinking, "Why did I wait??? I'd be at my goal weight by now."

In the end, you have to do what you think is best for your health and future. I know he's probably scared and worried about you, but like the one post said, educate yourself, then him. A lot of people just don't know the details and facts. Take him to a seminar, show him websites...etc.

The thing I liked the best about the LapBand is that it is reversible. If you do have trouble, it can be removed.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
