Sleeved June 13, 2016 - Still can't eat

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am checking in to see how people who were sleeves the same week as me are doing. I still can't eat, my calorie intake is around 300. I am wondering if someone can give me some ideas on meals. It appears that I can't eat meat. It makes me sad because I loved meat before the sleeve. I look at it and want it, but it just doesn't set well with my stomach. It doesn't feel well going down at all. I love vegetables, and still do but I need Protein.

How are you with drinking shakes?

I know we should be getting Protein from food but you have to do what you have to do.

Here are some suggestions

http://www.bodybuilding.com/content/ultimate-list-40-high-protein-foods.html

Some Protein Bars aren't bad but most are junk.

The Rule of thumb is 1 gram of Protein = 10 calories in order for it to be a good source of protein.

Protein shakes are different for me now too. I had to use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury pre-op. I can't stand them now. I've been using premiere shakes. chocolate mostly. I sometimes add things to it to change things up. (Like s/f coffee syrups & powdered pb2) it's all about finding what works for us now because our tastes and likes have changed so much.

I used to love premier Protein. Now the Protein powder, and the drinks make me gag. I will try one tomorrow with s/f coffee Syrup. I hadn't thought of that. I want some meat so bad!!! Lol!! Honestly, I tried a bake potato today and it went down well. I was only able to eat a little, but I'm desperate to get anything down.

Cocojh, have you tried shaved turkey breast from the deli? It is almost crumbly and with a bite the size of a dime, it isn't like meat. Hopefully you will be able to revisit meat again soon and it will work. Oh, and what about tuna salad or mushy chicken salad? Sorry if I am taking you down a

ath you have already been.

Did you use a food processor or blender? I found that meats were much easier when ground. I had a week of serious food aversions after surgery (July 12) but made myself eat and got over it. What about Beans, yogurt, etc?

I'm sorry that you're having an aversion to meat. In addition to the items other posters mentioned, you may want to try the Atkins Lift Protein drinks. I think I may have developed some lactose intolerance issues, so I'm trying out the lemonade flavor now instead of my usual Premier Protein shake.

(I was sleeved 6/13, too.)

I don't eat much beef though...whenever I do it feels hard to swallow even if I chew chew chew .. im mostly eating fish and chicken with my veggies...I don't know how much calories I eat in a day im guessing between 500-800. I also drink premier Protein and I think im lactose intolerant :( whenever I drink the shake or have yogurt or Cereal with milk I get cramps. it doesn't stop me from drinking the shakes tho... just trying to get a much Protein as possible.. I hope your able to eat meats again.. I know your tastes change after the surgery because mine have :o

I was sleeved July 12....I've had s horrible time with food too. Around 300-400 calories a day and barely any Protein. The shakes I loved before surgery make me gag now also. It's so frustrating. Sorry you are having a hard time as well.

I was sleeved on 6/14 and I have tried vegetarian hamburgers and meatballs because they are high in Protein. Also Premier Protein has a new Carmel flavor and I like it in my decaffeinated coffee as a Creamer and sweetner. I also drink skim milk, eat lean deli meat chipped, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
